This DVD catches them at the Astoria in London in May 2004 in fine form. It is a 2 DVD set, the first shows them performing the whole of their Passengers album live, the second has them playing a selection of their best previous work. The packaging is also excellent, with a well written accompanying booklet.
In terms of performance I cannot praise this band enough. They are all excellent musicians but I must particularly mention Bryan Josh and Heather Findlay.
Bryan Josh is the founder member, key driver and lead guitarist. His playing is superb his style being influenced by Dave Gilmour and Ritchie Blackmore and yet distinctively still his own. If you like emotionally driven, soaring guitar solos you'll love this. However Bryan always plays for the song and never lets self-indulgence creep in.
Heather Findlay is without doubt the finest female rock singer I have ever heard. Her voice is extremely versatile, soft and gentle one moment, powerful and compelling the next. In terms of stature, her confidence and personal charisma have grown considerably in the last couple of years, resulting in her taking a far higher profile. Together with her talent and remarkable good looks, this has resulted in her becoming the face of the band.
If you only buy one Mostly Autumn product, get this. Truly excellent!
I bought the Single DVD Version, though as you can see from the one earlier review there is or at least was also a double DVD option. Anyone else who doesn't already know MA, best I can sum up is try to imagine a folkier Floyd (Bryan Josh lead guitar and especially his hard-to-believe -its-not- Gilmour vocals) that has upped its female vocals from backing to lead (Findlay), with some great Tullish fluting on several tracks(Angela Goldthorpe..... though she always plays with both feet firmly on the ground , mind!)
This is 21C UK prog rock at its very best. "Simple Ways" , "Evergreen" and "Night Sky" are personal stand -outs , there are no weak tracks though just one or two riff on maybe a little long (though Mother Nature is worth all its 17 minutes , so long as you're not pushed for time !)
