Soulwax (or Too Many DJ's when on the 1s and 2s) are David and Stephen Dewaele and hail fron Ghent, Belgium. They've dabbled in mashups, and have made some pretty good albums, but they're notorious for their remixes, a mix of electronica, rock, punk and mashup - making them hot property on the remix circuit.
This is no exception - 2CDs jammed with some of Soulwax's most respected remixes since 2000 - and a mix by the duo just to show you they're really hot on the decks. Some of their hottest remixes are featured here, including the mashup for LCD Soundsystem; mixing Daft Punk tracks with a progressive electro sound, which works really well. Other gems include the mashup with 808 State and Human Resource - a rave group circa 1991; gritty and dirty remix of Kylie's pop classic "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" with it's rebelious guitar and live drums; DJ Shadow's classic from The Private Press "Six Days" - which to me is perfect anyway, but adds an interesting edge to the mix and Gorillaz' Dare - electro pop at it's best.
The second disk is a mix CD of all those tracks - beautifully crafted by the duo, proving that DJ mixes are not all commercial and full of popular music. This is how it was meant to be - a lot of DJs could learn from them, but not take their sound. It's like you're being taken on a journey, and the mix never fails to keep you entertained and inspired - they don't do things like everyone else and this makes Soulwax one of the best mash up groups since The Cut Up Boys.
If you love the remix, inovative DJ'ing and a mix that has had care and attention this is for you. Good idea for those of you who've never really knew good old DJ mixed CDs from 1994-1997 - shame a lot of big named clubs don't really go back to basics.
