I've seen/heard a fair amount of Mark Ronson this year - who hasn't? - and have plenty of time for the "Caught by the fuzz" & most of "Versions". So I was intrigued when I saw this track listed. I don't know the backstory as to why Mark Ronson's doing a Dylan remix - sorry, "re-version" - but this has a half-hearted, dilettante feel to it. Sometimes listening to "Versions" I've found the MR approach - if in doubt, smear on brass section everywhere - can be formulaic. The decision to include the original does MR no favours at all, & emphasizes the "if it ain't broke..." pointlesness of the project. Fortunately, "Most likely..." is a strong enough song to withstand MR's predictable tinkering (yes, you guessed! horn arrangements, understated hip hop kick to rhythm track etc). Of course, Dylan's bulletproof these days, but can Mark Ronson be more than one of the year's passing fancies?
