The phenomena appears to start as soon as the team enter the locations. Coincidence or not, you decide? At Yorkshire's Nunnington Hall Lesley Smith is able to tell the story of two tragic boys. As the team walk through the building a swinging chandelier is filmed and some memorable audibles are recorded. As the team investigate The Exeter Old Courts a black shadow is filmed moving across Ciaran O'Keeffe's face and the team encounter the vengeful spirit of a man called Cornelius. The team return to The Niddry Street Vaults in the hope of contacting the spirit of a man known as The Watcher. When the team visit the decks of ss Great Britain Brian Shepherd is able to explain the mystery of how one of its captains went missing and Karl Beattie gets the fright of his life on the 3rd class deck. At Newton House in Wales the team contact a murderous spirit during a seance. Yvette delivers the immortal line "Let's give this piece of **** some action."
MH11 contains enough drama, frights and phenomena to keep fans of the series happy. But with a total running time of only 6hrs 23mins is this release worth the asking price? You decide.
My favourite funny moment has to be when Lesley Smith, the Historian, is sent to the stern of SS Great Britain by Karl Beattie (she refers to him as the Brute), and being truthful as she is, says in her lone vigil, if there are any spirits there, Don't come forward, I don't want to know!,and the words bugger off at some point, a classic.
Throughly recommend this.
1) Nunnington Hall, North Yorkshire
The last episode in this batch that I watched - just as well, as it's one of the best! The MH team, apparently conducting the first ever official investigation at this National Trust property, experience strange sounds (the first in the episode occur whilst Yvette is interviewing parapsychologist Ciaran in the daylight, before the investigation), a possible apparition (seen by Karl - not caught on camera), and more. The team return to a room which seems to have only one entrance, only to find a carpet pushed against the door. There's a swinging chandelier (not seen starting to move, unfortunately). Best of all, on thermal imager, a thrown marble is seen to head back towards the table from where it was thrown, after Yvette asked for it to be returned!
Ciaran states that he believes a slight incline on the floor to be responsible for this. I'm dubious of this explanation because:
i) The marble moves back in a jerky, not smooth, motion - and seems to change direction twice in the return journey.
ii) It's not stated, but other (stationary) marbles seem to be on the floor as the marble passes by at moderate speed.
Put these factors together, and I think this episode offers lots of genuinely spooky material!
Another good episode, with several owl-like noises heard by the team. Some hot spots on a floor are investigated, and are found to be explainable - which does the team credit. On the other hand, Karl hears noises and captures a cradle rocking by itself! Shame that Ciaran does not discuss this evidence. Instead, he seems to be holding back in his analysis at the episode's end.Read more ›
Gripes apart, this is a quite entertaining DVD. The locations (apart from the dreadful Madame Tussauds), have been well thought out, and on occasions provide some quite spooky and unexplainable moments. Yes, we still have the dreadfully hammy (and utterly unbelieveable and not in a good way) Medium, Brian Shepherd, and Historian Lesley Smith who alternates between amusing me greatly with her asides, and irritating me intensely by screeching loudly and running off at every given opportunity. Another reviewer on here has mentioned that when she talks to 'us' via the camera, she looks like she wants to kill you. She does ! She also changes her voice in a terribly hammy affected way, which rather ruins what she's trying to convey, which is usually very interesting.
The locations are great, apart from the Madame Tussauds episode. Nothing happens of any note, and it has as much atmosphere as a shoe box. The other locations more than make up for this though.
I'd recommend this DVD to anyone. Watch it tongue in cheek, and you'll be highly entertained.
PS. Im no prude, but anyone else think that most of the crew have foul mouths? I get so annoyed when they have to bleep five or six seconds of sound out. They never used to swear so much in the early DVDs.
