I read the first book (Murder, Mr Mosely) and enjoyed it. Today I wanted something to cheer me up so I downloaded this one and read it in one sitting. It has been a joy to read - full of sly humour and deadly doings with the wily Inspector Mosely at the centre weaving his web of entrapment. As usual his methods are inscrutable much to the frustration of his superiors (in the hierarchy) and my amusement. I'm away to download the next one which is not my usual procedure as I like to space out an enjoyable series to give me something to look forward to, but I can't wait.

I am enjoying the Mosley books very much. Mosley works in his own apparently inexplicable way. He knows everyone, even if they don't know him. He absorbs infomation as by osmosis and files it in his mind for further use. His superior officers think he's a rustic buffoon, and can never work out how he gets the crimes solved. Great stuff.

...is the chap who stood on a peak in Darien, of course, having discovered the Pacific. He was thrilled, and so was I to have discovered John Greenwood. I had been looking for a really good puzzle novelist for ages, one whose characters I could at least relate to, if not always sympathise with. I just LOVE Inspector Mosely, who would drive me potty if I ever met him, with the way he plays all his hypotheses and clues so close to his chest. I utterly believe in his encyclopaedic knowledge of his patch and, being an erstwhile Yorkshire child myself, enjoy the tours and recognise the inhabitants.

I love the earthiness of the Inspector Mosley novels. Wonderful characters and a plot that keeps one guessing. Although satorially deprived, stumpy of leg, Mosley is an unstoppable force, much to the consternation of his contempories and superiors. Petty criminals hide when they glimpse Mosley strolling casually across the town square. They know when they are being stalked. Thoroughly good read.
