Product Description

Product Description

Moscow is famous for the art and design of its metro stations.

Visiting a banya really does involve being beaten with a birch twig and leaping into an ice-cold pool.

Moscow, the capital of the Federation of Russia, is over eight hundred and fifty years old.

- The Moscow Metro in Moscow, Russia is the world's most heavily used metro system, it is well-known for the ornate design of many of the stations, containing stunningly beautiful examples of socialist realist art.

Moscow is the site of the famous (Citadel of a Russian town) Kremlin, which serves as the centre of the national government.

Moscow is the heart of the Russian ballet and the performing arts - ticket prices used to be as low as $1 in the Soviet era, unfortunately prices have been seriously adjusted.

Format:Paperback
Very useful for quick City Break visit.
However, once again - Lonely planet is not great with map accuracy

Unreliable 26 Feb 2011
By Colin C TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
I visited Moscow in October 2010 with my girlfriend and this was the guide we used. Lonely Planet books are usually pretty accurate, informative and insightful in their opinions, however this one missed the mark a few times too often and overall cannot be fully trusted.

There were mistakes in the maps (St Basil's Cathedral is not inside the Kremlin!), the entries for sights and districts were often quite brief for such an enormous and culturally rich city, and worst of all, recommendations were sometimes simply bizarre. We wasted a morning on a 'Top Sight' in the book, a house of ice sculptures in what turned out to be a small shed in a distant, undeveloped part of the city - and which took 5 minutes to walk around when we finally found it. The book didn't even have a complete transport map on how to get there and I am not convinced that the author had visited it before recommending it.

Overall, if you do buy this guide for what can be a challenging city to visit, beware of the maps inside it which have several errors, and consult an alternative info source too. Enjoy your Russian trip!

Very useful for the basics, like main museums and tourist sites. Also has an excellent pull-out map at the back.

But Moscow changes fast, and plenty in the book is out of date, like bars/restaurants and smaller tourist sites. Find a newer guide book if you can.
