Mortal Kombat : Defenders of the Realm is a totally watchable Fox Kids TV series that has been bought to UK DVD. There are 3 DVDs in total, and this is the first volume in the series. Mortal Kombat : DOTR is easy viewing for kids and adults alike, with all the old, regular faces in there- Raiden, Sonya, Subzero to name a few- plus some of the more, mainly unknown characters that appeared in the later sequels of the video game. There's barely any violence, but the main draw here for Mortal Kombat fans is that the series unveils all you need to know about the different realms, and the history behind the feuds that formed the main storylines in the actual video game (especially the first, with Sonya and Kano's feud being the main focus point of one of the episodes on this disc). The picture quality is fine, and there are zero extras, but the price is right and the actual content is pretty good.

I'm nearly sixty years old now and most of my life I've been plagued by insomnia. It was with the advent of twenty-four TV here in the UK that I had now something to do during the zombie-like hours of the night. On one such occassion, I came across the "Mortal Kombat" TV series on some arbitary TV channel. The acting wasn't worth watching and the martial arts, well the martial arts could have been replaced by a pair of old ladies in a race to knit a scarf or two for the church fund-raiser! All the fight scenes appeared to be choriographed by Gene Kelly on Speed. The only thing about this series I could say was, I was interested in the main plot about Offworld Realm and the attempts by it's ruler to take over the Earth Realm, so too the subplots, some obviously a reason to introduce babe-talent or maybe an almost known TV guest appearance. If you could stay awake all through one of these episodes you could with some authority state you definately were suffering from a serious case of insomnia or you had gone completely nuts and I must have, for I can't think of one good reason to both watching or collecting the series, maybe I'm paying a pennance!
