Product Description

Product Description

Whether you drink tea, coffee, hot chocolate or herbal infusions, the Morphy Richards Intelliboil jug kettle heats water to precisely the temperature you need for the perfect drink.

Key features include the easy-to-use digital temperature control, the concealed 3kW rapid-boil element and the multi-coloured illuminated water gauge, which intensifies as the water temperature rises. The 360° cordless base is ideal for right or left-handed use, while the one-cup boil indicator helps you save energy.

The limescale filter prevents any bits getting in your drink and is removable for easy cleaning, and the Intelliboil also features boil-dry protection. Cord storage keeps it neat and tidy on your work surface.

Unique 29 May 2010
As well as black tea, I drink herbal teas and hot chocolate. So I was looking for a kettle that could heat water to different temperatures and the Intelliboil kettles were the only ones I was able to find that fit the bill. As a bonus, the cheaper, plastic version was well reviewed in "Which?".

Having read the reviews for the 43870 on Amazon, I decided that I didn't want to risk buying a kettle that makes the water taste of plastic. So I bought this version instead. The jug is stainless steel inside and out and it produces normal, pleasant tasting water without adding any flavour of its own. The other features are the same as those of its cheaper sibling and just as useful. If you are a techy or a tea lover and you are prepaired to spend a little bit extra on your kettle, this is the one for you.

...unless I'm missing something! Bought to replace old leaky, noisy kettle (interestingly also
Morphy Richards!). This is a different 'kettle of fish'. Well designed and built, comfortable, easy to open and fill and relatively quiet (especially when full). Having read about the taint with the plastic version, I was happy to pay the extra for the stainless one, and this has proved a good choice. Looks great and no taint, even from the first (well second) fill. The coloured light feature is fun and a quick way of telling how hot the contents are. However, with a digital temperature guage built in, probably superfluous. The selectable switch off temperature(if not required to be boiling) is great for coffee and easy to use. Bit dubious about the claimed energy saving though - can't get around the physics! Quickly boils minimum contents (around 1 minute, so good for the adverts). However, this model didn't quite do what it said on the tin (box) which had a picture of a water level guage with a 1 cup minimum. In actual fact, the minimum mark is 2 cups, albeit small ones! Maybe they were getting too many elements burned out? One minor criticism - power lead is very short. Overall, a great buy - very satisfied.

Severe Design Flaws 6 Feb 2011
I was purchased the stainless steel variant of the Morphy Richards IntelliBoil kettle as a Christmas present in 2009/10. Since then I've had to had the kettle replaced twice for what I would classify as severe design faults (see below). Worst still Morphy Richards policy is to NOT renew the warranty with each replacement, but rather continue the warranty from the original purchase date.

The fatal design flaws that I have witnessed, TWICE in TWO different kettles now, are as follows:

1. After a few months operation the digital temperature gauge seems to either lag behind the thermostat, or the water no-longer reaches the programmed temperature (witnessed in kettle #1).

2. After approximately 6-9 months operation, the kettles digital display becomes water logged, with beads of moisture on the inner surface of the digital display window (witnessed in kettles #1 & #2). Eventually the display fails (witnessed in kettle #1 & #2) and/or the kettle no longer functions, presumably due to moisture attacking the internal circuitry (witnessed in kettle #2 only).

3. After approximately 6-9 months operation, the kettle develops a serious leak, ostensible from the bottom joint of the plastic handle (witnessed in kettles #1 and #2)

I am now on my third kettle from Morphy Richards, and despite of the fact that I have witnessed precisely the same sequence of events/failures in both previous units Morphy Richards was unwilling to extend the 2 year warranty such that it recommenced from the date of replacement. This, in my view, is rather unethical on the part of Morphy Richards. These are clearly design faults, and fatal ones at that, and to allow warranties to expire whist these design faults are still an issue is criminal.

Sufficed to say I shall be writing a formal letter of complaint to Morphy Richards (previous communications have been via telephone and e-mail, and have gotten me nowhere). I would however advise that any prospective buyer avoid this model (and Morphy Richards) like the plague, at least until they've amended their warranty policy to recommence should a replacement be required. After-all, in most situation where a repair is called for, the repair itself is under warranty (an effective extension of warranty).

Didn't last a year
Yes its great to have different settings for tea and coffee but this kettle didn't last a year. Our last morphy richards kettle was a plastic one and it lasted much longer. Read more
