I had the same problem - but the power button was stuck when the kettle arrived, so it never worked!

Not a bad kettle for the money (you get what you pay for I suppose), but this kettle stopped working within a month - the power button became stuck and wouldn't work at all. Design fault or one off? Risk it if you want - I got a different kettle next time.
Incidentally Amazon allowed me to print off a returns label so posting it back was free and they refunded my account with an apology - happy with the service.

Totally different experience from the other reviewers. Have used this kettle almost every day for five and a half years without any issues and has only just stopped working this morning. Haven't had a chance to look at the problem yet, so could even be the fuse as opposed to the element.
That's good value for money in my book...
EDIT: Kettle hadn't actually stopped working, just the light.
