We have been very pleased with this product since we bought it two years ago - so pleased that we have bought several for presents. But today, found out there is a problem for which many others have reported, and I think that there should be a recall. If your initial soup mixture is too thick and a lot of dense material sinks to the bottom before the stirrer actuates, then heat from the base cannot be transferred to the liquid above it, that bottom layer then burns, solidifies and overheats and the machine turns itself off with some some of thermostatic protection device. The problem has frequently been reported on these sites. What would happen it that thermostatic switch was in itself faulty by manufacture, or by a customer "mending" or bypassing that protection device. There would be a fire. The risk is too high and the manufacturer has a duty of care to address the problem. Could Murphy Richards assure us that they are dealing with problem? A warning on the machine would be the least they could do.

OMG, if you're umming and ahhing as to whether or not to purchase this soup maker, hesitate no more!!!! You will not possibly regret it! It really is superb! So so easy to use! It literally is just a matter of chopping and throwing in all your veggies, then leaving!!!! It does it all for you! As for the washing up, there really is hardly any! Just a quick swill and its done!

The taste of the soup is to die for, and it blends it to perfection, soooo smooth! Of course you have the chunkier option if desired.

My one hesitation when buying was whether it'd make enough soup, as 1.6litre capacity sounded less than I was used to. I probably would say it makes more like 4 bowls than 6, but its still ample, and really is the best you'll taste! Buy it!

The first three times I used the soup maker, I never had one problem with it and was really pleased. I did not follow the recipes and still no issues, that was until the fourth time I used it, it clicked off after approximately a minute, no matter how many times I tried to switch it back on, same thing happened, after emptying the soup maker I saw at the bottom the food had burnt on, after much cleaning I managed to remove the burnt food, the second and third time same thing happened, so by this time I was getting quite annoyed. I decided to give the soup maker one more go before giving up and sending back. This time I wiped some olive oil on the bottom, put liquid in first and then butternut and peppers and this time it worked fantastically, no burning, no issues.

I was HUGELY cynical about this when my husband ordered it, as it really isn't that hard to chop and cook vegetables in a pan, but since it arrived I have completely reconsidered - I love it! Yes, you still have to chop the ingredients, but once in the kettle (it looks like a kettle), it cooks for max 28 mins, or 21 mins if you want a blended smooth soup, and what is so wonderful is that there is no risk of overcooking, so you maintain maximum nutritional value to the ingredients while still having a cooked soup. The taste was fabulous and very fresh because the vegetables were not overcooked, which is easy to do when making a soup on the stove, and no pots, spoons, ladles, blender to wash, just a quick swipe with a sponge and a sploosh under the tap and all is cleared up.

I've also used it to make juice and smoothies, and though it really is just a blender in this instance, there is something about the design that makes it easier to wash than a regular blender, so recommended there too. The one thing that made me wonder was when I opened it to pour out the juice, a wisp of steam came out. The juice was still very cool, but clearly when using it in any mode, the kettle begins to warm up a little, however unnoticeably.

In all, the fastest, freshest soup I've made, short of raw soups, and even there, I'll use it to make gazpacho from now on, since it is so clean and easy and fast. Love love love. My new favourite toy.

Makes great soup!
Delicious fresh soup in an instant, the quickest is a pack of mixed veg thrown in with some water and a stock cube, about 20-30 mins later you have a lovely soup!
A pack of butternut squash and chopped onion, with some curry spices, delicious.
If you need anything cooking first you have to do that in another pan, all meats for soups need to be cooked first if making them in this.
Easy to clean, the blending blade pulls out, it is on a long spindle from the lid - the motor is inside the lid, the body is like a kettle jug.
There may be some soups you want to make more time about and make in a more traditional way, but for every day soups and speed, this is great.

Easy to use. Have to be careful to put some liquid in first before food or it tends to burn at the base.
