Morphy Richards 46718 Multifunctional Opener
|The 6-in-1 Multifunction Opener from Morphy Richards incorporates an automatic can opener plus a jar opener and a multi-opening tool to open bottle tops, ring pulls, lids and even hard clam shell plastic packaging. The Multifunction Opener is perfect if you struggle with dexterity issues or simply want to make everyday opening tasks simpler. |
The small, sleek design featuring inbuilt cord storage will sit perfectly on any work surface, or can just as easily be easily stored away in a cupboard. A smooth, wipe-clean body makes cleaning quick and easy, while non-slip feet ensure the opener will stay put even when opening larger cans.
Automatic Can Opener
Simply place a can underneath the cutting unit, press down the lever and the opener will automatically rotate and hold the can while opening.
| ||Jar Opener |
Struggling to open a jar can be frustrating, but with the non-slip jar opening device, you simply wrap it around the lid and twist. Opening challenging jar tops has never been easier.
|Ring pull Can Opener |
The ring pull can opener on the multi-opening tool makes it really easy to open those tricky cans; just slide the device under the ring pull and lift.
| ||Twist-off and Pop-off Bottle Cap Opener |
Place the multi-opening tool on the bottle top, hold the bottle at its base and twist the tool anti-clockwise to easily remove the lid. The tool also acts as a traditional bottle top opener, perfect for parties.
|Plastic Packaging |
The plastic packaging opener on the multi-opening tool cuts through difficult hard plastic wrapping and packaging with ease. Simply slide down the sides of packaging, reducing the risk of cuts and scratches from using scissors.

It is robust and reassuringly heavy sitting securely on the counter. All shapes and sizes of can are dealt with efficiently, including sardine tins (forget the ring pull just present the can to this machine).
In addition it opens jars and bottles. no more straining or having to ask someone else to do it for you. Wish I had owned one years ago.
1 electrical Tin opener for tins without pulling lever: (unlike the one touch opener), it DOES handle tuna sized tins, and it does not leave a mess on the work top. The lid is attached to the magnet and does need encouraging to pull off but it is not too hard. One can interrupt the opener if you prefer to leave the lid slightly attached and if you like to lift it there is a tool in the machine to help you doing that without cutting your fingers... I'd say for that function 9/10 ( not 10 because the magnet is rather strong)
2 The bottle opener: inserted inside the unit it is robust and made from unbreakable material which is a plus point. It is dishwasher safe too. Down side for the crown opener end is that the lever is not very long but still manageable. I would say 8/10
The turning cap is in the middle of the lever it is amazing. This has clearly been constructed for people with decreased power and finger issues. One can thump the opening over a turning cap and simply use any body part to put pressure on it since it acts as a lever. For people who had to replace turning taps in their house with lever taps because they can't turn... THIS IS THE SOLUTION.. !Read more ›
To replace their previous electric tin opener, they purchased a fairly cheap replacement but found they were unable to get the tin in the correct position/angle to open it and the button difficult to press - hence it was returned.
They have only had this tin opener for a couple of days but have found it extremely easy to use. Easy tin placement, button easy to press and it stays still on the work surface.
I would not normally review an item, but when looking for this, I found other reviews extremely helpful. It is a little bit more expensive than alternatives but seems to be worth the extra - my parents would definitely recommend it. Other reviewers mentioned about the plastic button breaking off - fingers crossed this won't happen, but first impressions are that this is worth the money and definitely good for elderly/disabled. Only downside is that it is black and all their other appliances are white - but a small price to pay.
This clever device is more than a can opener, it has attachments that open screw cap jars, ring pull cans, beer bottles and more. About the only thing it lacks is a corkscrew.
As a can opener it works well, is easy to clean and put back to gether.
Minus points? Only one, if it is really a minus point. It needs to be left out on the counter top.
When I opened it with her, I was initially disappointed. It seemed to me that the bulk of it was just this huge plastic block, and I wasn't crazy about the extras.
However I've been regularly checking with Mum if it works OK and have used it myself a few times, and I was completely wrong.
This product has a few additional functions - a jar opener, a ring-pull tin opener, a zip pack opener, a bottle opener, and a bottle top twister-offer(sorry for the daft name but I had to differentiate from the bottle opener somehow!).
I'll be honest - neither me nor my mum have tried the bottle opener so I can't comment on that one. In my experience of bottle opener's it looks like it will work though.
I'll cover the rest of the functions one at a time below:
1) The tin opener: There's a bit of a knack to it otherwise it won't work. In fairness I think you can expect that with anything mechanical involving cutting or crunching, so it's not a bad thing - you just have to learn the knack. Here's roughly how it works: with the handle up, you hold the tin with it's metal lip just above the wheel and bring the handle down about 90% of it's full range. Before you bring it down fully though you need to fold the magnetic lid-grabber(best I could do under pressure!) down so it's in contact with the tin's lid. Then you bring the handle fully down and the electro-mechanical mechanism kicks in and you no longer need to hold the tin - in fact yu could step away and let it do its thing until it finishes at this point. It rotates the tin while simultaneously cutting the lid.Read more ›
