Some of what passes for 'world music' is a pallid fusion of pop and funk with a superficial overlay of 'ethnic' sounds, whatever that means. In this case however, one hears the real deal. Raw, uncut, no EQ. When I was in Morocco I was awakened in the wee hours of the morning by calls to prayer broadcast over powerful PA systems that echoed all over Casablanca. You'll hear some of that on this disc, along with some rhythmic street music. This is powerful, and no excuses.
