About the Author

Barnaby first fell in love with the idea of Morocco aged nine, standing before Delacroix's Arab Tax in Washington DC’s National Gallery. He first visited Morocco when he was 16, on an errand from Gibraltar to buy fresh vegetables in the souk in Tetouan. He has been going back ever since, but over the last two decades has also found time to lay pebble floors in grottoes and write a history of North Africa. He is the author of Cadogan's Morocco; Marrakesh, Fez, Rabat and Tunisia guides. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

If you're going to Morocco this is most definitely the book to buy. Not only is it immensely useful - with practical information on the best places to visit, stay and eat - but rare for a travel guide, it's also an enjoyable read. It reveals the magic of this exotic land from the bustling souks of Marrakech, to the cool peaks of the Atlas Mountains and the lush oases in the saharan desert. Invaluable!

1.0 out of 5 stars better as a doorstop 6 Nov 2006
Format:Paperback
this guide is crap. granted, some of the commentary is interesting and amusing but the awful maps (often detailed with only three or four street names) and the inaccurate pricing system (accommodation is classified as "cheap," "inexpensive," "expensive," or "luxury" - usually incorrectly) make it more suitable as a weapon of defence against one of the country's hundreds of faux-guides than as a source of reliable information. look elsewhere. anywhere else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enhanced with 50 maps and town plans 5 Dec 2004
By Midwest Book Review - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The native land of the Berbers, Morocco is a fascinating land with a long history of invasions and occupations by Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, and the French. It is the Islamic country of such ancient cities as Casablanca, Marrakech, and Tangier. Now in a fully revised and updated edition, Morocco is a superbly organized and enthusiastically recommended travel guide to Morocco's regional highlights featuring more than 600 "hand picked" places to stay, as well as restaurants, bars and cafes. Enhanced with 50 maps and town plans, Morocco provides the traveler with expert insights into Moroccan history, art, religion, culture, festivals, and even local market days. Of special note is the wealth of ideas and advice for planning a trip.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent traveling companion 30 Nov 2007

Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book provided a great intro to a country I never knew anything about, and continued to provide good information all the way through my trip. The first several sections have brief spiels on different aspects of Moroccan culture and life (e.g., traditional food, what to expect as a solo female traveler, arts and crafts). For improvement, I would suggest more detailed maps with more street names, especially of the medina. I ended up having to use another book as a supplement in the map area. All in all, however, the book is indispensable for any traveler.
