By Tami Brady TOP 100 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
I've always liked the idea of doing yoga. It seems so serene. Over the years, I`ve tried doing yoga in a variety of different ways, all with the same unfortunate results. I start out very eager. I push myself to do the poses and find myself becoming competitive. Within two or three days, I've hurt myself and that's about the end of my attempt.

I got Morning Yoga Workout, hoping that this time might be different. Surprisingly it was. It's been two weeks and I've only missed one workout (on the third day). I feel pretty good.

Even though I am getting up earlier every morning to do my workout, it doesn't seem to be a big chore. I think it's because the author puts a great deal of emphasis on breathing. Therefore, instead of getting overwhelmed with worries that I might not be doing a pose quite right or moving to the harder positions before my body is ready, I simply focus on my breathing. It's pretty easy to get up and do a workout when you tell yourself that your sole purpose is to breathe. The book includes light, moderate, and intense 15-20, 30-40, and 50-60 minute workouts for any fitness level and schedule.

A very useful book 5 Dec 2006
By Steve Rooney - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This will be a very useful book for me and for many others. The first two chapters provide a very succinct overview of the fundamentals and a detailed guide to good habits. My yoga library is fairly extensive and these two chapters provide more foundational guidance on more aspects in fewer pages than any book I can recall. Of course my short-term memory is not what it used to be! But even if there are other yoga books with this much guidance in such a short read, providing it in a book primarily aimed at the fitness market is fabulous, and you will find it to be clear and useful.

That the breath is fundamental to my experience of yoga is without question. That a morning practice (adapted to my time and ability) is not to be missed is also without question. These are now part of my enjoyment of life.

I should disclose that I have studied with Zack for nearly five years, so I am pre-disposed to write a positive review. I have also studied with Leslie Kaminoff, Mark Whitwell, Kausthub Desikachar, and T.K.V. Desikachar; and have read all their books and many others. And am currently enrolled in Gary and Mirka Kraftsow's teacher training program. I have read lots of yoga books.

Showing asana practice routines of three intensities and three time lengths is very useful. It addresses the principal obstacles to getting a home practice started - ability and time. Of course these two obstacles are issues of perception, but who knows that until we start to break the obstacles down. I bet this book will help more than a few people break them down! Thank goodness that in fact we all have all the time and ability we need, and that there are books like this and people like Zack, that are helping others to experience this truism. Life is good!

A great, easy-to-follow workout book 6 Dec 2007
By Carrie Rigdon - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I'd been looking for a simple, straight-forward yoga exercise book and I checked several out from my local library, including this one. Kurland's book was the clear winner. I regretted having to turn it back in and I'm definitely getting my own copy.

Pros:
+ Easy-to-follow directions with photographs - not too cluttered
+ Exercises are grouped into sets divided by intensity (light, moderate, intense) and workout length (15-20 min, 30-40 min, 60 min). This lets me choose day by day what I'd like to work on given the time and intensity.
+ Each set includes a variety of poses and exercises with a nice focus on balance and motion
+ Exercises do not rely on other equipment like mats, balls, or bolsters
+ Exercises do not need a lot of room or floor space
+ Book includes warm-up exercises that can be used before any type of exercise
+ Includes meditation exercises, too

Cons: I can't really think of a down side to this book. I have had previous in-class yoga experience, so I'm not sure how easy it is for an absolute beginner to grasp the concepts and to feel when a pose is correct.

Finally, despite the word "Morning" in the title, these exercises are perfect for any time. I'm not a morning person, so I perform these exercises when I get home from work - a nice way to recharge my batteries!

Most excellent Book on yoga instruction 18 July 2008
By Tree Hugger - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is by far the best I have ever had. The directions are clear, right to the point. He is very clear about breathing and how it's all connected to the movement. My advice is the following: give yourself the time to read the instructions and then do the asana as described. What a concept! very very very good book!!!
