Biography

Success is a devilish opiate. A swift and heady drink that goes down smooth at first, and then starts to burn your throat and rattle your bones. Only to leave crater sized holes in your constitution the next day. We all love a good success story, don't we? But interestingly, what usually makes it 'good' are not the 'good' things about the story. No. It's the bad things ... Read more in Amazon's Incubus Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Every track is a melodic masterpiece, buy it!! 26 Dec 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I don't hand out 5 stars lightly but I feel this latest offering from Incubus is worthy. Unlike much of the heavy metal/rock that is being produced at the moment, Incubus manage to create something more intelligent and sophisticated in Morning View. The album has a diversity of sounds, but it manages to remain coherent and polished in every respect. It is one of those rare CDs whose greatness hits you straight away as every track is a masterpiece! Oh, and the actual CD has the best artwork I have ever seen!
The album starts on a high note with 'Nice To Know You' which cleverly combines delicate guitar work with brutally heavy riffs. 'Circles' is equally as heavy with a raging main riff and chugging guitars while 'Wish You Were Here' is a true classic and really captures the spirit of their 'morning view' with its captivating lyrics: 'the ocean looks like a thousand diamonds strewn across a blue blanket'. Following these three heavy tunes come two softer, profound offerings which are truly excellent. 'Just A Phase' has a beautiful instrumental intro and passionate vocals while 11am is lyrically brilliant and is sung with such emotive sincerity.
'Blood On The Ground' is perhaps the most heavy song on the album but it does not escape Incubus' now trademark softer stamp, which is certainly not a bad thing. This is a wallop of raw emotion with slanted, chugging riffs and Brandon Boyd's distinctive yowling vocals. Although weaker lyrically, 'Mexico' deserves its status as one of this album's best tracks. Intricate guitar work from Michael Einziger and sweeping strings give this song a tone of sadness while Brandon's competent vocals complete this excellent song. Utter brilliance. 'Warning' is another excellent track with great harmonies around the 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars A mouthwatering experience I cannot leave behind 23 Oct 2001
Format:Audio CD
The album at first listen is, to tell the truth, utterly amazing. I found that I couldn't stop listening to it and basically pressed play again as soon as it stopped.
To compare to Incubus' previous releases, Morning View is closest to Make Yourself. To make direct links between songs, Mexico is the closest track to Drive, and Echo sounds a bit like a cross between Stellar and I Miss You. There are many standout tracks on the album and to list them they are Nice To Know You, Wish You Were Here, 11am, Mexico, Warning and Are You In?
This does not however mean that the rest of the tracks aren't any good. I am happy with every track on the album, but inevitably I do have my favourites. Oh and Echo makes me think of my girlfriend.

3.0 out of 5 stars Close but no Didjeridoo... 25 Oct 2001
Format:Audio CD
Having been an Incubus fan for quite a while, and the alternative scene for a great deal longer, this album can't help but dissapoint a fan of the very idea of Incubus... However the reason Incubus are such a joy, is that like the other two aforementioned bands, they embody the purest and most enjoyable ideals of Nu-metal, the splicing of genre's, the recognition of the importance of the emo movement's lyrics, the sampled dynamiscism of hip-hop, and overall, the feel of stretching the very skin of 'Metal' to its limits.
Through earlier works such as 'Make Yourself', and irrefutably 'S.C.I.E.N.C.E', this ideal is wonderfully toyed with, and makes for the rarest of pleasures within nu-metal; albums that bare repeated listening over a year later.
'Morning View' is certainly the sound of Incubus 'maturing', but in so, they've simply become more content to rest within the trappings of their own sound. There is little to distinguish between brash opener 'Nice To Know You' and 'Make Yourself's 'Privelige', or 'Circles' as a deflated 'Make Yourself'...and more worrying is the feeble '11am's aspirations to 'Drive's heartfelt purity. The pondering sense of musical unrest that made the sophomore release so inspirational is here in spirit but the fire of 'S.C.I.E.N.C.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best album they have released!!!!! 28 Sep 2001
Format:Audio CD
If you thought Incubus couldn't get any better you couldn't be more wrong. The band return with an album that is their best to-date a mix of mellow and hard tracks that any Incubus fan will love. The album follows a trend for Incubus, making every album they have done to date different from the last, one thing that makes the band so good. The album starts off with the hard opener 'Nice to Know You' and ends on the ever so mellow 8 minute 'Aqueous Transmission'. The album is very different to their multi million selling 'Make Yourself' and is more like their 1997 album S.C.I.E.N.C.E. Stand out tracks include the first single from the album 'Wish You Were Here', the beautifully mellow 'Just a phase', potential single 'Warning' and the stand out track which sends funk to a new level 'Are You In?'. On every track Brandon's voice is streched to its peak and DJ Kilmore adds funk to them. Every song is excellent and everyone who likes Incubus will be happy with the end result.
