David Usher plays laid acoustic lead back rock music (with a little tinniest hit of country in there somewhere) in a similar vain to Vertical Horizon or Plumb. Lyrically i think David Usher is outstanding, but i felt his lyrics on his first album were not done justice by disjointed and forgettable tunes. But this is a much more well rounded record. Now the lyrics are backed up by a much more competent sounding tunes, so most of the tracks here are well crafted and even quite catchy.
Particular highlights include 'Black Black Heart' which breaths a new rock lease of life into a well know classical piece of music.
'A Day In The Life' and 'My Way Out' are both catchy and have 'potential radio hit' written all over them.
Also so many people have covered Tracy Chapmans 'Fast Car', but no one has produced anything that measures up to the original. But instead of just trying to repeat and better Champmans version David Usher takes the track in a slightly different direction and it works suprisingly well.
If you are a Moist fan this might not quite be what you were expecting, as it is quite considerably more chilled out and more acoustic based than anything David Usher produced in his time in the band. But it's still a good album, and worth a listen, especially if you are a fan of the likes of Vertical Horizon or Plumb.
