I watched this series on the Discovery Channel, and have since purchased the DVD.
What I like best about the series, is it uses the actual scientists who are researching the topics, to explain their work and the latest discoveries in their field. This really helps bring the subjects to life, and the scientists themselves are usually lively and interesting watch. (Not boring, dry scientists as you might expect!)
Morgan's narration is also excellent, and ties the programme together brilliantly.

Really pleased this got a European DVD release, I hope the second series does too.

This dvd collection is amazing. Some of the episodes and the things they discuss have blown my mind. It was this series that prompted my husband to explore his interest in space and the universe. Morgan Freemans commentary is excellent and makes it very accessible. Would definitely recommend.

These are interesting science documentaries which look at the cutting-edge of current theories. They're not as detailed, nor as well produced as the BBC's Brian Cox 'Wonders' series. But they're pretty much on a par with 'Horizon' and similar current series.
Intended for a general audience, they use a lot of CGI and interviews with experts in each field. Typically, each programme presents an overview of a subject and asks a lot of questions around it, then gets several researchers to outline their own theory of what might be happening. Very often, there's no clear-cut answer -- but there is an awful lot of speculation.
If you have a science background then you may get frustrated at the amount of simplification and the lack of detail explanation; segments are chopped quite short and experts rarely get to explain the nitty gritty behind the exciting soundbites. Some of the illustrations can be a bit random and not necessarily related to the subject matter.
On the other hand, Through The Wormhole is pretty accessible for anyone who bailed out of science in secondary school and doesn't know a photon from a frisbee. So they're useful infotainment if you don't know much about the subject and would like an easy to follow introduction.
One downside: the programmes originally contained ad breaks, so there's a lot of repetition in each episode, re-capping after each 'break'.

I bought this blu ray from Netherlands as although UK is the first place for nonsense to be released, it is the last place for anything of any educational material to be made available and i do not mind telling you that i enjoyed watching it.
The clarity of the blu ray compliments the substance nicely.
It describes universe, space time and even the possibility of time travel in a very easy to understand language and in that, it manages to get a wow from you more then once or twice.
the only drawback is that for some reason, the producers released 2 seasons for TV viewing but only hand picked a few episodes to put on this blu ray.
so this is for anyone from Discovery channel who may be reading this, "Get your act together and release them all... you know, the old fashion way of Season 1... Season 2..."

I have to admit that Iam a fan of Morgan freeman but this is not the only reason why I enjoyed this dvd set. I have watched a few documentrys on space but this one has to be one the most easy to understand and interesting documentry. I think this is value for money as I don't have sky and I can watch it again and again.
