About the Author

Along with his brother Luke and friend Craig Logan, Matt fronted the ‘80s pop sensation Bros. After unprecedented success, Bros disbanded in 1991, but hits such as ‘When Will I Be Famous’ and ‘I Owe You Nothing’ have been used on countless film and tv soundtracks. Recently, Matt Goss has made a comeback with his album Early Side of Later and his hit single ‘Fly’, and has made numerous high-profile television appearances, including ITV’s Hell’s Kitchen.

This is the story of Matt Goss's life - as lead singer of the infamous boy band Bros, this book explains how he was practically catapulted to fame at the age of 19 and all of the highs and lows that came with it. It's a fantastic book, if, like me you loved Bros, as it's a wonderful trip down memory lane but even if you weren't a fan it's still a fascinating account of how success can bring both happiness and despair.

Throughout the book Matt's narrative comes across as intensely genuine and very personal. He gives an honest and detailed account of his life and doesn't shy away from revealing how difficult some of the years have been for him. It was wonderful to recall all those old memories about Bros and it was also incredibly interesting to hear their story from Matt's perspective. It's an excellent biography; fascinating, entertaining, funny and also sad in places. I couldn't put it down and finished it thinking what a really nice guy Matt Goss is.

Oh and reading this book prompted me to spend last Saturday morning getting the old vinyl out and playing the Bros albums for the first time in about 16 years - much to my husband's dismay!

I bought this book to learn a little bit more about one of my pop idols from my youth and actually found it lot more than I was expecting. The book has great stories of crazy fans which made me smile but also shares with us the sad things that go with success, fame and fortune. A true eye opener to show there is more to Matt Goss than ripped jeans and beer tops on shoes fashion crazes. This book will make you laugh and cry by the time you come to the end of it.

A must for any Bros fan!

I found the book interesting as it provides a snapshot of what it is really like being in a successful band. The story starts by describing the humble background and pain of the singer and his brother linked to the divorce of their parents. The lack of money, the numerous moves from one house to another, the difficulties of having to make new friends at yet another new school, feeling like an outsider. The tone is not pitiful, on the contrary it is very straightforward. It covers the craziness of getting famous so quickly at 18 years old and touring the world surrounded by screaming fans all over the places. Money, cars, luxury hotels, being chased by fans, paparazzi. It is funny to read what some of the fans did to meet Bros (the frozen turkey as a gift was hilarious!!). It must have been insane going from being a small unknown band to heading Wembley Stadium. The ghost writer did a great job at conveying Matt Goss' feelings. The book then carries on with the issues bros faced when the bass player unceremoniously left and sued them for royalties and the problems that came up with their management and the financial meltdown. British tabloids can be very vicious and the disturbing callous choice of cheering the fact Bros were facing difficulties is sickening. The book describes the headlines, how they were haunted by tabloids, paparazzi. It carries on with the decision to move to the US to find some peace of mind. The hard times of not having money, having to sell possessions like watches to survive, the loneliness (going from having a hectic life and 3000 people screaming outside the door to complete silence and not knowing anyone in a big city) and the depression.Read more ›

Matt Goss, painfully shy superstar? Well as unlikely as it sounds, that's the crux of the matter. On stage Matt, once lead singer of world-famous boy band BROS, fancies himself a Freddie Mercury the ultimate showman. Privately and offstage this man has always felt a part of himself was missing. He exposes the constant feelings of insecurity and how at times he was unable to cope with his loneliness.

This is a surprisingly complex book. There are a lot of happy memories with many thanks yous, In contrast he tries not to dwell on the disappointments, heartaches and lessons learned the hard way.

I would recommend any wannabees, those contemplating a life in entertainment, to at least scan through this book and take on board the warnings about the heartlessness of some big companies and the poisonous small print on business contracts.

This has got to be one of my favourite books of all time. Matt is such a genuine and warm person and is one of my idols. Matt bares his heart and soul in this book and takes you through his highs and lows of his life. I could not put this book down and was quite bereft when I finished it! Please do yourself a favour and read this book. You will see that he is more than a teen idol from the 80's and is a musical genius with so much talent and thankfully much more to bring to the table. I look forward to the next instalment.
