Product Description

Product Description

Bellerophon and the winged horse Pegasus launch into the blue sky in search of the dreaded three-headed Chimera, but will success go to the hero's head? Orpheus, devastated by the death of his wife, Eurydice, dares the dangers of the kingdom of the dead in an attempt to bring her back to life. Echo loves Narcissus but he only loves himself: a story that can only end in sadness. These and other colourful legends from Ancient Greece are retold in lively form by Benjamin Soames, with classical music providing further excitement.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Greek Legends, 23 Sep 2006
Wow, when I first saw this cd I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as the first set which were brilliant, and had most of the better known heroes and their stories on them. Stories like Herakles and Jason, Theseus and Perseus, but I think this set of tales is even better! The sound quality is excellent and Ben Soames voice is really lively, bringing these tales to life. I listened to them on a long drive up to Scotland and I was really transported by the storytelling. The music is well chosen too and my kids 12 and 14 really liked them too. I had read versions of some of these stories before, but there are some great action sequences, like when Belerofon kills the Kimera and some beautiful descriptions, of Pegasus, the winged stallion and proper gory stuff, like when Acteon gets ripped apart by his hounds. The cruelty of the gods and goddesses is one of the things this set of stories really gets across well. The way the stories are told was a bit like Lord of the rings or even Conan the barbarian at times and even though they are supposed to be for kids I reckon anyone who likes legends and fantsy would enjoy them. Really good storytelling, a pleasure to listen to.

3.0 out of 5 stars easy listening, 17 May 2009

The stories were well told, although i thought some of them were definately too short ( a minute or two long) That aside, the narration was friendly and interesting (and thankfully, for me at least, not too deep) I found the whole experience enjoyable and found the tales evoking many wonderful and exciting images in my mind...and i definately feel my knowledge of greek mythology enriched .... but i have to admit i did start longing for some atmospheric sound effects and a different voice, now and then ...

All-in-all, for the money not bad ... could have been alot better
