Product Description

Lee Scratch Perry, Alex Paterson and Thomas Fehlmann are returning in fine style with 'More Tales From The Orbservatory'. 2012's The ORBSERVER In The Starhouse' was rightfully acclaimed as a colossal meeting of like minds and souls, sparking with rare magic as Alex Paterson and long-time Orb member Thomas Fehlmann provided the perfect backdrops for the Upsetter's inimitable pronouncements, righteous declarations and sweet vocals. If anything, the follow-up stretches further into the cosmos, the backings more heavily rooted in the basic but infinite principles of rhythm and dub. The new tracks continue the full-blooded immersion in reggae's infinite studio universe which characterised the first set; shards of old songs loom like aural ghosts while rhythms resurface, morphing into something fresh and new. For decades, all three artists have shared a common quest to push out the sound barriers. Each one also knows that journey is never over, which makes the appearance of this fresh batch of tunes and dubs all the more exciting. The mouth-watering potential of a legendary master working with long-time acolytes who tuned into his unique wavelength long ago continues to blossom and explodes again on More Tales From The Orbservatory.

OK let's start with a reality check. This is not really another new album from the Orb and Lee Perry. In effect it is a 5-track EP extension to the Observer LP, (the sixth track being an interlude) and one of those tracks (No Ice Age) was already released as an itunes exclusive. So that's about 22 minutes of fresh sounds. The second half of the release is taken up with instrumentals.

But having got that out of the way, this is still a real treat; spacious dubbed out productions abound. It's a move away from the pounding grooves that dominated much of "Orbserver", but there's still plenty of bass to satisfy dub-heads, and in fact the traditional dub influences are stronger - shades of Rhythm & Sound to my ears. Perry's lunacy is on the same form - rhyming "apple" with "chapel", "crusher" with "Russia" on "Don't Rush I"

The green vinyl is lush and a high quality pressing, there's a download code included, and after all you have those instrumentals to hand as well. The Amazon price is about the most reasonable on the web, so get it while stocks last.

Sorry guys, not impressed at all. Five songs and five unchanged instromentals, no dubbing, lack lustre songs and dreary rythms this has nothing to recommend it. I liked the first CD they did together but this is very poor. Buy the first one and leave this one on the shelf. If you really want to get a good Orb disc try Metallic spheres, if you like Lee Perry's stuff then seek out Pressure Sounds Roaring Lion collection, now that's what I call music.

I may even prefer this to its predecessor. From the same sessions, these are theoretically the leftovers from last year's Orbserver In The Starhouse, but by golly they're good!
