Book Description

Stevel Biddulph’s bestselling sequel to ‘The secret of happy children’

Product Description

The sequel to The Secret of Happy Children – which has sold over 1 million worldwide. This book helps parents communicate with children from babyhood to teens.

A book which covers a wide age group from toddlers to older children and covers new key issues such as:
• ‘soft love’: the power of touch and praise and giving time and the ‘firm love’ which allows you to discipline (this is not about giving punishment but about teaching and getting involved… without hurt or fear)
• the childcare issue – Steve believes that long day care of children under 3 in an institutional setting, like a creche will give kids a deprived childhood experience. He talks about finding a balance and what to do if you have no choice
• Raising boys and raising daughters

I have used the methods described in this book to help deal with my children and awkward behaviour and I can honestly say there has been a marked improvement. If you find yourself as a parent feeling tired of trying the old fashioned methods of getting your children to be more co-operative, then this is the book for you.

I re-read this book occasionally to remind myself of the techniques. It's a very reassuring and warming book and you feel you like your doing the best you can for your child.

I say it's better than the first book, The secrets of Happy Children because there are a lot more practical tips in this and they are very specific.

I recommend this book to any parent who wants a little less stress bringing up their children.

This book is a quick read - I read it in less than a morning. Gives some good advice which you will find has become more widespread than when this books was first written. (It supported much of what I had read in What to Expect...The Toddler years.) The first chapters on affirmative/positive language is particularly telling and makes you look at your own conversational tricks and habits. The last chapter on you and your partner offers some (easy) things to try and fit in to your day/life. On the advice of other Amazon readers I'm going to read the second one as it seems to me it is the 'tips' which are the most useful in helping you put the advice in to practice.

If you grew up and look back and think..."if I had been given more smacks I woldn't have gotten into so much trouble" I suggest you re-think your plans on giving your kids plenty of smacks to keep them in line. After reading Steve's chapter on firm love I've realised what I needed was more "discipline" and there is a much better alternative to smacking. I suggest you read this book and examine your methods/thoughts on just what discipline for children is supposed to do and examine the alternative which keeps your child's dignity and love for you as parent intact.
