Product Description

Annunzio Paulo Mantovani was a world renowned conductor, composer and arranger who from the early 50's to the late 70's presented the world's most famous light orchestra, featuring his unforgettable cascading strings devised by composer and arranger Ronald Binge. His album sales rivalled those of Sinatra, Elvis and the Beatles. Amidst critical acclaim the Mantovani Orchestra have returned to Lighthouse, Poole's Centre for the Arts to perform many of the original hits, compositions and arrangements for this unique live concert recording. DVD extras include Mantovani Memories and Mantovani: Behind The Scenes

A magical event... 9 May 2010
By C. FULLER TOP 50 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
I was really impressed with More Mantovani Magic because not only do you get the full concert over 2 discs but you also get Mantovani Memories a sequence of photographs and vintage filmed performances approx 39 minutes and another shorter documentary approx 14 minutes entitled Mantovani: Behind the Scenes.
It is difficult to capture the atmosphere of a concert whether you are doing just an audio recording or in this case a filmed version with audio. I am pleased to say that the results achieved make this a must for Mantovani fans. The introductions by Ed Stewart & Alexandra Bastedo make for good continuity and they both seem to be enchanted by the music.
As you can see from the list of musical items above there is plenty that will be familiar and the arrangements and playing are top drawer. Highlights for me were "Lonely Ballerina" a composition by Michael Carr & Mantovani; Roland Shaw's arrangement for "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps" and the percussion both the arrangements by Cecil Milner and the playing by Paul Barrett. The most lively and accomplished was "Percussion on Parade". I should have known but "Cara Mia" was a Mantovani composition that was a big hit for him and David Whitfield and the version here had a lovely piano solo from Ian Harrison. All the soloists were first rate. Leader Franck Leprince & conductor Sam Newgarth. This is a real bargain. If you enjoy orchestral concerts don't miss this one.

More Mantovani Magic 24 Sep 2010
'More Mantovani Magic' is a long overdue DVD of a concert filmed at The Lighthouse Arts Centre, Poole,in 2009 by the revived Mantovani Orchestra, performing the original arrangements of all the old hits such as 'Charmaine, 'Diane', 'Lonely Ballerina', and many more. The famous cascading strings are heard (and seen) in all their trademark glory, with some fine instrumental solo breaks here and there by accordionist Edward Hession, to re-create that luscious Mantovani sound and style. There's nothing remotely as good as this on television these days, more's the pity, but fans of 'light music' everywhere can now own and watch this inspirational music over and over again.

The extras are 'Mantovani Memories' - some superb quality Pathe News films of performances by the 1930s Mantovani Tipica Orchestra, and 'Mantovani - Behind the Scenes' - looking back at the man himself.

Marvellous! 7 Jan 2011

This is a lovely DVD and it should please all afficionados of Annunzio Paulo Mantovani's style of playing. Recorded at the Poole (Dorset) Arts Centre - close to the home Mantovani had in Martello Road, Poole - the orchestra, conducted by Sam Newgarth, is very ably presented by Ed Stewart ('Stewpot') and Alexander Bastedo (who used to be in the television series The Champions). The audio quality is very good - and all your favourites are here.
