This cd really should be heard. Jack Bruce has never sung better. The album showcases a stunning variety of styles, all held together by challenging lyrics, tremendous Latin rhythms, and Jack's sensitive and powerful singing. This is not an album where the best tracks are all bunched at the front end, it becomes increasingly impressive the further one listens. Standout tracks include the slow blues 'Uh-oh', the adventurous 'Lost in the city' (excellent guitar from son Malcolm), the mysterious and gorgeous 'Milonga too', the hypnotic 'The night that once was mine', and moving laments 'Kelly's Blues' and 'Progress'. Lyrics from Kip Hanrahan and Pete Brown provoke thought on themes of enduring love, children at risk, passing of time, hopes lost and regained. The bass is well up in the mix. Superb.

A highly ambitious, complex album from 60 year old Jack Bruce. There are a lot of strange melodies not that instantly accessible. It sure aint commercial music. Full marks to Sanctuary Records for keeping faith.
Some spins I feel a tad disappointed overall, the next play I get more excited... Its a challenging listen and thats no bad thing. Oodles better than the hugely disappointing Jet Set Jewel.
Standout track for me is Kellys Blues. An emotional tour de force with totally amazing vocals.
Great line-up: Vernon Reid on guitar, Bernie Worrell on Hammond Organ, Robby Ameen and El Negro Horacio Hernandez on drums and Richie Flores on Congas. Malcolm Bruce plays guitar on the excellent final track too.
Probably not as many good/great songs as Shadows In The Air, but it has great music in an abundance of styles.
After all, its a Jack Bruce album. Init?

Again ,same as 2 years ago when I got firstly "Shadows in the air" from amazon, I am getting more than expected. Of course classic remade songs of cream like "We are goin wrong", "I feel free" and "Politician" are coming as no surprise with great support of Berni Worrell B-3 and Vernon Reid guitar. The other new songs (total play time 66 min!) remind me of Harmony row and Monkjack atmosphere. The "tempo" is influenced by great Latinos drum band - El Horacio and Robby Ameen. If you like it go for other cds of Kip Hanrahan with JB. JB voice is magnificent and songs will become new anthems - check out UH,Oh! and tribute to Cozy Powell.

One or two of the tracks on this fascinating 2003 album remind me of the rarefied musical landscape Robert Wyatt often inhabits - and Wyatt has sung with Bruce in the past.
Jack B never ceases to amaze, delight and inspire me. I have quite a few of his records now, including his work with the peerless Cream, and a happy collaboration with Robin Trower on the superb Seven Moons.
Vernon Reid, of the band Living Colour (and how tremendous they were live!) plays guitar, not for the first time on a JB album. Jack sure knows how to choose his collaborators.
There's a contemplative feel to some of these songs, not least his reworking of his old standby We're Going Wrong, with its slow, tortured crescendo until Reid lets rip with some splintery guitar.
Jack also revisits old Cream classics I Feel Free and, perhaps more profitably, Politician.
For the rest, there's plenty of his trademark succinct bass, eloquent piano, and that distinctive voice like no other.
There are few people I'd rather listen to these days, and this addition to the glittering Bruce canon is close to his best. For some it may not be quite up there with, say, Harmony Row or Shadows in the Air, but there's so much going on in these fourteen tracks that the Jack Bruce lover will be more than satisfied. It certainly doesn't sound like anything else.

Great title, terrific album.
