Good to see a Sci fi series without a lot of special effects but still with a good grip on what a story can be with a decent plot and a great cast to follow it through. It plays well with mind games and leads you through the story without staying too long on flat scenes which might make it go stagnant.Always a nice little twist here and there which peeks your interest and makes you want a bit more. Now on episode 11 ,I can see the build up to a season finale which will probably take a twist and leave you wanting more.Bring on season 2.

Very good show covering many sci-fi genres all at once (robots, aliens, body horror and government cover ups) Halle Berry is good (better than most films I've seen her in) and the young boy, Pierce Gagnon, is excellent. It's not a high brow show but is very entertaining. Check it out. Amazon Prime please buy more new tv shows from the US, all the shows so far have been good (Vikings, Black Sails and this one.)

I was pleasantly surprised how good a first episode was of EXTANT, some familiar faces from the big screen gave a great feel to the whole episode, often on first episodes my mind begins wonder what they are trying to put across, Dominion being a prime example, Extant kept me interested from start to finish and i am looking forward to the next episode as the plot thickens. If you enjoy the genre then this is one definitely to watch.

Good sci-fi is one of the harder genres to succeed in. Extant has had a promising start, the first episode seemingly a mash-up of 2001 and The Omen. It will be interesting to see how the story develops and whether it keeps us watching.

I thought this was a great start & a good sic-fi idea, looking forward to how this develops in the future. I am old enough to remember Crossroads in the 70's so I am 'expert' on wooden acting and moving scenery; this had neither, the characters are well thought out and the actors played them excellently, and Halle Berry is superb!

This could potentially be a good series but somehow things don't gel together. The acting is mediocre except for Halle Berry, it's as if the actors can be bothered and are struggling to be motivated, it's not enough to throw in a good actor and then wait for things to happen. And then there are stupid mistakes even a child could spot. They have all that technology and yet the Japanese guy (I forget his name...) wears glasses, even I have had eye laser surgery, plus he has been taking this potion found in a cave that has prolonged his life and kept him young, and yet his his eye sight declined over the years... They can take the Offsping alien from Molly's womb and "grow" him in an incubator type machine and yet Molly herself can't have children. Surely with that sort of technology couples wouldn't need to be childless. Anyway, this series has failed to inspire or interest me so I won't be watching Series 2.

I have recently seen episode 11 of Extant (there are spoilers in this post).

Extant has progressed some way; the principle characters have been fleshed-out and their back-stories are expanding. Also the wider world the series inhabits is also being revealed.

When re-watching the earlier episodes, the characterisations in these latter episodes are more settled.
I wholly understand why some reviewers would have criticised the acting, in the earlier episodes, but it looks like the showrunner(s)seem to be addressing this.

Despite that, I feel dialogue has always been okay throughout, and enough tension is in each episode to progress the plot smoothly.

Irritatingly the show is let down by irrational character decision making and odd/predictable plot progressions:
-Humanoid becoming self-aware and rebellious.
-Molly insisting on calling the homicidal-mind controlling alien "her baby".
-Spark's cack-handed first murder and blanket cover-up of the resulting corpse - WITH THE VICTIM'S FEET STICKING OUT FROM THE BLANKET.
-Harmon Kryger, impossible to track and armed with a throwaway phone.
-No many in the future are bothered invest in decent surveillance.

That said episode 11 was much better:
-The Odin character is a useful wildcard.
-Hideki Yasumoto's back story is finally explained and reveals he clearly knows sod-all about the alien-critter-kid, but is nearly 200 years old and addicted to alien goo.
-The extent of the alien-critter-kid's effect on those around it, including....irrational choices! Beer to the showrunner for that one.
-Molly suspecting the homicidal-mind controlling alien is not "her baby".
