Ivor's last stand 22 Sep 2006
Format:Audio CD
Ever since "The Fruity Bits of Ivor Biggun" was released in 1999, winkers worldwide have been clamouring to get their calloused hands on the other songs from the albums that were essential listening for teenage bedrooms or long car journeys: "The Winker's Album (misprint)", "More Filth! Dirt Cheap..." and "Partners In Grime". Out-of-print for over a decade, these tracks have now been digitally re-fumbled and are ready to be restored to their rightful place in Mr. Biggun's canon and this nation's comic heritage.

This smorgasbord of smut is compiled from those first three long players, rare singles and extended plays, live recordings and private pressings (and even a new Christmas song). It's (nearly) all here, forty-four of the little meisterwerks, crammed onto two CD's; the ingredients for a lifelong partnership - Something Old (Ivor), Something New (but still as rancid as the old un's), Something Borrowed (most of the tunes) and Something Blue (that'll be Ivor again).

Oh my mispent youth. I got "more filth dirt cheap" from my parents in the early 80's for xmas. They spotted the cover and deemed it right up my street. How right they were. This is pure genius. If you laughed at the best bits of the Benny Hill show and see the funny side of the Macc Ladds then get this. Skiffle based toilet humour at its wittiest. The musicianship is top notch. Ivor plays more instruments than Roy Castle and with himself frequently.

This re-packaging of Ivor's Albiums 'The Winker's Album' and 'More Filth, Dirt Cheap' is of paramount importance. Everyone in the world should be treated to Ivor's dulcet tones in' No, No, No's' 'Mr. Fellatio, the ice cream man' - a personal favourite of mine (I've even heard my own mother singing it and a cousin of mine has been known as Mr. Fellatio ever since the record came out). 'Pretend you're at the seaside and it's a stick of rock'.

No joke, this music is so funny!! The Stanley Holloway-ish rendition of 'The Other Educated Monkey' is sheer brilliance - especially when a human's lot is made to look dismal when compared with the 'wanking, defacation and wife-swapping' of the monkeys! 'The Filthy Farmer', too is absolute genius 'Gobble, gobble, gobble goes the turkey and wanker, wanker, wanker goes the duck'. He's filthy, alright. The tunes are great, too. I wish Ivor would write an opera. Could you imagine 'The Winker's Opera (misspelt)'?!

Without doubt, though, the highlight of this two-disk set is where Ivor tells us that 'you don't have to be a gynaecologist to recognise a country squire at a hunt', which is true, of course.

This man is a national treasure.

This two-disk set should be compulsory.
