Book Description

By rights DS Lasser should be happy, engaged to the woman of his dreams, and just back from a two-week vacation, life is sweet.

Yet when he discovers that a local sex offender has been mutilated and murdered, all thoughts of harmonious bliss are quickly annihilated.

No one would shed a tear for Colin Philips, no one would stand at his grave and mourn, but when another body turns up in gory bite sized chunks it soon becomes apparent that Philips was only the start.

Someone is stalking the streets of this windswept northern town, someone with a burning hatred and a long list of names to work with.

The killer is on a mission to rid the town of the perverts and child molesters, and he always seems to be one-step ahead of the law.

The authorities are struggling to cope; cuts and job losses at the council are making it an impossible task to monitor the offenders and the killer is taking full advantage of the situation.

Lasser soon finds himself ensnared in a web of lies and deceit as those responsible for using the town as a dumping ground try to cover their tracks at any cost.

To make matters worse local reporter Michael Brewster is leading the witch-hunt, determined to lay the blame for the killings at Lasser's feet.

As the nights draw in and the body count rises, Lasser must hunt the maniac as he spirals out of control, though even in his madness Lasser realises that the killer is working to an agenda and he isn't working alone.

    More About the Author

Rob Roughley lives in the North West of England (God's coal bunker, the land of the wedding cake made by placing three meat pies on top of one another and whippets on lengths of string)
He is the author of eleven crime/thriller novels featuring DS Lasser. The novels are set between the run down streets of a northern town and the beautiful yet desolate west Pennine moors.
If you love your crime fiction crammed with square jawed heroes driving flash cars and glorious women who shimmer with inner light, then the DS Lasser novels are probably not for you.
However, if you prefer your characters to be flawed, with a sprinkling of dandruff and old acne scars, the plots to be laced with dark humour, then give them a try.

I'm hopeless at writing reviews I don't really know what to put, but I know what I like and I like, actually love, the Lasser novels. They aren't 'Dixon of Dock Green' novels but who wants to read about boring everyday life? I want to be taken on a wild exciting ride, fight criminals, live on the edge and have passionate romances all from my living room chair. I want to feel my heart beat fast. I want to live vicariously. Lasser does all this and more. I won't spoil it by saying anything about the actual plot, just buy the book, you won't regret it.This is the 5th outing for Lasser and still as good as the first.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Corker from Mr Roughley 13 Aug. 2014

I loved this book. The plot to this story is so skilfully woven it will pull you in from page one with its dramatic opening and then keeps your attention as the bodies start piling up.

With the local council full of deceit and corruption Lasser is on a quest to clean up. This is a daunting task but along with his wit and humour he manages to grapple with the challenge.

As with all of this author’s books the intrigue and excitement builds up to a crescendo of an ending. So my advice is to sit back, and get ready for one heck of a story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast and exciting book. 13 Sept. 2014
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was having a trawl through Amazon looking for some books to download for holiday and I came across the Lasser series so I bought three of them and thought I'll have a bash at these! So glad I did what a fantastic series of books, if you like a good crime /detective series then these are the books for you.
Lasser isn't your typical detective he is gruff with a dry sense of humour and a bit of a loose cannon and has a brilliant love/hate relationship with his boss Bannister.
Particularly enjoyed this book as with all the previous books they are fast moving and drag you in from the start.
This book had a great story with lots of unexpected twists, I actually found myself willing the killer to kill more people before he was caught. I had tried to ration myself to a couple of chapters a day but it was impossible and found it hard to put down, (except when I dropped my kindle when falling asleep!!) an exciting read and can't wait to read many more. Highly recommended series. :-)

    5.0 out of 5 stars WOW. 15 Sept. 2014
    Format:Kindle Edition
'More Equal' follows the route of the previous 4 Lasser novels, but getting better & better with each one. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this book, but my only criticism is how long I have to wait between each book before the next one is released. As another comment says, ' This is not Dixon of Dock green', but Robin tells it how it is, (or maybe how it should be). Its faced paced and sometimes you wonder where Lasser is going, but you know that all that keeps him going, is getting the 'Bad Guy' by any means necessary. Pure Brilliance.
Once you start reading one of the Lasser novels, its hard to put down. You are in a bit of a quandary, whereby you want to know how it all pans out, but you don't want it to end. Not many authors have this ability.
Keep up the good work Robin.

A really enjoyable series of books and for me the best one yet. With more deaths than an entire series of Midsomer Murders there's never a dull moment. A few gruesome scenes but plenty of dark humour to contrast these.
The central characters are well written and really developing well as the series progresses.Looking forward to more.
    A great gritty read.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Addictive Than Others! 3 Oct. 2014
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Agree wholeheartedly with the other 5-star reviewers and have all five in the series (understand Mr Roughley is on number 9 - hurrah!) I am now totally invested in the characters and anxious to see how they develop. Although all the stories grip with the many twists and turns, they are not totally plot-driven and hence such believable and 'human' characters - no cliché cops here! Yes, the spelling and grammatical errors are irritating but I am willing to stifle my inner pedant for the sake of a good read and, at these prices, still great value.

    5.0 out of 5 stars A must read!!! 22 Feb. 2015

Another in depth thriller. Lasser and Bannister going at each other but you get the impression that they actually respect each other. They work as part of a good team. This is a story of love, hate and twisted minds. A story with nothing to go on until diligent detecting finds a small clue. I loved the colourful description of the tower block 'lady' resident had me nearly crying with laughter which helps, however briefly, to take your mind off man's cruelty to man! Loved the story. 5stars without a doubt!

Robin has written an excellent series of gritty, attention holding novels. The main characters are fascinating, so unflashy and "normal" people with strengths and human weakness. Plots move along swiftly with twists and turns and set against the private lives of people involved.
    Absolutely engrossing.
Five stars in spite of quite a few spelling/grammatical errors ---these don't detract from story line
    Highly recommended
