This really is a wonderful book for young children. Whale is bored of eating krill, so sets off across the ocean to find something new to snack on. He starts with a 'teeny, tiny fish' and the snacks then get bigger and bigger - a slurpy, slimy eel, a crunchy, crusty crab and then larger and larger - until he eats the whole ocean itself! The use of language is fantastic to read aloud - with lots of repetition and rhyming and the illustrations are brilliant. It is very reminiscent of the old lady who swallowed a spider, as the descriptions of the snacks and their movements inside the whale are repeated. Eventually, having eaten SO much, whale feels a little sick... Having burped everything back out, he is back to eating his usual krill! Very funny, excellent read, which my children have requested many times at bedtime. A real winner.
