Carmel 12 Sep 2008
By Kathy.S
Format:DVD
I've been a fan since the 80's when I witnessed a video they did for 'more more more' around the streets of Manchester on a flat back wagon ........ unfortunately didn't achieve much success in this country but if you like popular music with a jazz edge this might be for you

Excellent 29 Dec 2007
Format:DVD
Clearly a lot of thought went into the set list for this one as most of the band's most popular songs are here. One of the things about Carmel is that despite having a relatively small back catalogue you would still come away from any gig feeling that they'd missed a few of your favourites.

The band here is excellent - Carmel and Jim Parris (Bass) backed by Carol Donaldson (Keyboards), Helena Price (Sax & Flute), Joe Ward (Trumpet), Sophie Hastings (Drums), Simon Bentall (Percussion), Shanks Gumaras (Backing Vocals) & Jo Price (Backing Vocals). The set includes their last ever performance of "I'm not afraid of you".

The extras on the DVD are a text based biography of the band which is really only of interest to anyone who does not know anything about the band. There is also a 40 minute interview with Carmel McCourt and Jim Parris which is in two bits - the first talking about the band and the second talking about the songs in the set list (the interview being done before the gig).

The set was filmed at Cargo in London on 30th October 2003.

The track list is:

TOK
Sally
Rekindle Your Youth
Azure
Tracks of My Tears
A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall
I'm Not Afraid of You
The Falling
Rue St. Denis
Good News
Bad Day
All In The Game
Not Dark Yet

Having seen Carmel many times live and including this gig at Cargo,London,I can honestly say that they always give value for money regards entertainment.
This CD re-issue proves that.
Covers of Bob Dylan classics "Its not dark yet" and "It'a hard rain" are unique Carmel attitude, not afraid to tackle anything avoid from their style.McCoutrs vocals are haunting and endeering at the same time, fragile and bustling.
Great re make of "Rekindle your youth"............northen lyrics, twisted with Dollar Brand...should be a release of its own on CD single.
Timeless,is how I would describe their classic marraige of mellody and tune.
Highly under-rated band in the UK,but have us few goth followers still around and long may they make music together for everyone to enjoy.
I get the feeling that music is a bridge for them, come together, shake hands and be human, not devided.
Top marks from me,buy the CD,listen and enjoy a truely classic British band partly forgotton.
