Product Description

Product Description

From the author of Bloody Women and Deadlier than the Male, seventeen more cases of death, violence and intrigue at the hands of some of Ireland's most notorious women... There has been a huge increase in violent deaths in Ireland in recent years. While men are more often the killers, there has been a rise in the number of murders committed by women. There is no single reason for this; some of the women featured in More Bloody Women killed for love gone wrong; some as revenge; some in the heat of the moment; some in cold blood. For some women, it was just business. Among the infamous cases in this book are the Black Widow, Catherine Nevin, who set up her husband's murder in Jack White's Inn; Linda and Charlotte Mulhall, the Scissor Sisters, who killed and dismembered their mother's violent boyfriend before dumping the remains in a canal; Sharon Collins, who tried to hire a professional assassin to kill her partner; Kelly Noble, who stabbed a friend to death outside a supermarket, and whose own mother was already in prison for killing Kelly's father; and Lynn Gibbs, who tragically drowned her daughter in a bath because she believed the girl was suffering from anorexia. David Kiely looks at all of these cases in forensic detail. He also delves into the fascination we have with women killers, and the media circus that surrounds every murder trial involving a woman. More Bloody Women is a chilling book that will shock and disturb.

bloody fantastic 18 Jun 2009
Format:Paperback
What a great read! I thoroughly enjoyed this book as I was eagerly awaiting another instalment from the pen of a great writer like David. His other books on the subject - Bloody Women and Deadlier than the Male- were also very informative and very easy to read. Although the subject matter is both tragic and at times heart wrenching David writes with such skill and sensitivity you can actually enjoy reading about the various cases that are dealt with. There is such attention to detail you get a really clear picture of each character and their motivation for committing such crimes. I found the case of the "scissors sisters" particularly fascinating as it was so sensational and you definitely wanted to know more about it than was written in the papers at the time. Overall a fascinating and riveting book.

Bloody good 15 Jun 2009
Format:Paperback
A very engrossing book indeed. I learnt some very fascinating things, like what shocked me most was the number of women in Ireland in recent times who not only took their own lives, but those of their children. This seems a very selfish thing to do because I thought it was mainly men who did that kind of thing.

The cases really draw you in and make you want to read on. I enjoyed the one about Sharon Collins a lot. She hired a hitman to kill her partner and his two sons so she'd get her hands on his millions. When the case was going on I didn't understand any of it for it seemed so complicated, but in More Bloody Women, the writer has written it in a very easy to understand way.

Another case that was really chilling was the Jacqueline Crymble case. She and her lover killed her poor husband, Paul in a very cold-blooded and callous way so she could get her hands on his life insurance.

I think books like this are important because they let you see how some women whether because of drink, depression, domestic abuse can be pushed to the limit and kill.

It was also interesting to learn that women will mostly kill someone they're emotionally involved. All the women in this book loved or had loved the victim. While men will not only kill their own but strangers too.

I highly recommend this book, as it's not only a book about murder, it also gives great insights into society's ills.

A great read 13 Jun 2009
By C. Lowe
Format:Paperback
I read David Kiely's first Bloody Women and I was hoping he would do another. This is better than the first! The first book contained alot of old cases, they were interesting but I find that recent cases like the ones in More Bloody Women are more relevant to us today.
I love true crime books, I want to get inside the head of the murderers and find out what makes them tick. David Kiely does this very well I must say. He has a long introduction where he discusses the differences between male and female murderers. Its very informative and to learn something about the mental state of the murderer.
Of course I turned at once to the Scissor sisters which are covered in detail. It was one of the most shocking cases in recent years. Farah Noor certainly comes across as being a thug. After reading this I found myself being almost glad the sisters killed him.
The most disturbing cases in this book, at least for me were the suicide cases, especially Mary Keegan of Firhouse who knifed her two small boys to death before killing herself. I live near there and people are still talking about it. I like the way David Kiely treats these cases, very humane and sympathetic. At the end of the day this is a great read. Full marks.
