Cringeworthy situations,

This review is from: More Awkward Situations for Men (Paperback)
Despite the author telling us in his introduction that this book would probably be best enjoyed by dipping into it and reading a small section at a time, I ignored his advice and polished it off in a day. I don't think that my blatant insubordination spoilt my enjoyment of it though because I still found this to be a very entertaining book.Like in his previous book Danny Wallace writes about the occasions when he found himself in an `awkward situation' during his everyday life. These are the sort of situations that happen to everybody and can happen anywhere; for Danny Wallace amongst the places they happened were at a cash machine, when queuing in a shop and whilst waiting for a lift. Clearly the reason that they are so funny is because of what Germans call schadenfreude - taking pleasure in the misfortune of others, particularly when you can easily imagine being in a similar situation yourself. What is hard to imagine though, is that they could happen quite so often as they seem to happen to Danny Wallace. Because each awkward situation only usually takes three pages to recount this makes this book extremely readable, although be warned - some people may find that they have already read many of them before, in the pages of a well-known free weekly magazine.

A fantastic read. Just the one snag, the T shirt was a size "Large". Being a short arse, it looked ridiculous on me! I wish there was an option to choose which size you required.

Lack Originality!,
This review is from: More Awkward Situations for Men (Paperback)
After reading all of Danny's book, I must say that I was most disappointed with this latest effort. Although Danny states that it is a book to dip in on occasions I felt that the observations were desperate and it lacked the impact of the first book. I know these books are based on previous columns so felt that the book lacked the originality of some of his earlier attempts. I hope that Danny comes back with something that has more humour. I felt this was sold on him become a father but not many of these observations related to the new time in his life. The one plus was I have gained a new gym t-shirt! Sorry Danny but this is cashing in and being lazy-you can do better!!!
