Product Description

Originally released in 2001, this is the third album of true Norwegian Black Metal from Carpathian Forest. Grim Black Metal of the finest quality, the album is awash with death, misanthropy and corrosive riffs. Features a cover of the Mayhem track `Ghoul' and a reworked version of the song "Carpathian Forest", originally released on the "Through Chasm, Caves & Titan Woods" EP.

Carpathian Forest tick all the boxes for a quality black metal band: blastbeat drumming, hardcore punk-rock overtones, rasping, strangled vocals and preposterous yet highly entertaining lyrical themes revolving around pain, suffering, death, general mysanthropy and the ever present evocation of satan.
There are some keyboards present but the music never strays into "melodic' territory, choosing instead to remain atmospheric yet never short of nasty.
An added quirk to this band is the casual inclusion of a saxophone(saxophone!!!)which contributes handsomely to the pervading tone of songs like the creepy Cold Comfort.
Well worth a listen.

listening to this album for the first time is a moment I will not soon forget - as it by far excels its counterparts.
It may not being one hundred percent origianl, but what this Album does do, is undisputedly Black Metal and very good Black Metal at that - with no weak tracks and a formula of keeping things interesting via shifting time signatures and unexpected flares of genius.

A real shock for me was the audible bass sections! - Moments which are usually rare for the genre, but done very well here.
whilst on the subject of instruments, the Guitars are fast and the Drums faster. The vocals are also brilliant and pull everything together to set the tone.

This album has made a real impression on my Black Metal tastes, and I regret I had not heard it sooner.

Having put off buying albums by CF for some reason I can't tell you, I bought this on a whim, expecting to hear the usual Norwegian fare.

I was amazed when the first track was a punk infused industrial march. The rest of the album was a rocky, Blackened hate fest which entertained me far more than I thought possible from the TNBM cover. The inclusion of slow atmospheric tracks "Cold Comfort" and "Nostalgia" (with saxophone!) were standout for me.

I had expected a generic Black Metal album, but found an interesting, punked up, musically adept album that left me very interested in buying more by them.

Also, "Doomed to walk the earth as slaves of the living dead" is now my favourite song title ever.

Buy it.

A great CD by one of the best Black Metal bands out there... 27 Mar 2006

I own all of Carpathian Forest's CD's and this is one of the best. They all are good as far as I'm concerned, but almost every song on here is special. This is not super-speed Black Metal. In fact it has jazz, punk, and good old heavy metal elements to it. Highlights are songs: Carpathian Forest, Through Self Mutilation, Knokkelman, Warlord of Misanthropy, A World of Bones, and Speechless. There are a couple of atmospheric songs on the CD also, very nicely executed. As always Nattefrost is the charismatic leader of this bunch, gotta love his nasty ways. Also a highlight is the excellent drumming and guitar work.
Excellent...Original 2 Nov 2005

What do you mean? Its doen't fit into the cookie-cutter mold that every "true" black metal album does? Yep, it is truly original but still has all the violent fury you'd expect from a black metal album. Imagination? That is not allowed!...Sorry but this is an imaginative, inventive, and also brutal as hell album. I own hundreds of "true" black metal albums but this is currently my favorite and has stayed in my CD player for over a month now! And yes it has a Tenor Saxophone on two songs!! But still kicks ass! Well worth the money. Buy it! NOW
Really good true Black Metal 3 Feb 2014

This what i like about Black Metal, these guy's are classic black metal with almost a punky kind of attitude. I prefer these guy's to the pretentious Dimmu Borgir/Cradle Of Filth goth influencde Black Metal. You Know Hot Topic Black Metal! This is the real deal. They don't use as much blast beats as other Black Metal Bands.

I'd give this album a 10 out of 10. It's a really classic.

Carpathian Forest. What I can say is they are my other favorite black metal band hailing from Norway. These guys are also amazing. I love this disc as well. This was first disc i have bought and not disappointed at all. All black metal fans ought to own 1 disc of Carpathian Forest. To me starting off "Morbid Fascination of Death" is a good start. Because it gives people an idea what this band is about like an intro. and go from there. My opinion from what I gathered from listening to it. Over and over again.
