`If there is one philosophical debate we need to be versed in, it is this one' Independent -- Independent

Book Description

Everyone holds beliefs. So what gives us the right to judge the behaviour of others in a world where ethics seem increasingly diverse and conflicting? Do universal human rights exist, or do we just have to accept that there's an irreparable moral discord between 'us' and 'the other'?

Lukes is equally at home in philosophy, sociology, anthropology, political theory and psychology, and this wise, informative, and beautifully written account is a pleasure to read. Everyone working in these disciplines should treat it as a model.
