My mum and her mum before her used to get Old Moore's Almanack every year and I've continued the family tradition. It's simply amazing that this little booklet has been in print since 1697! Lots has changed since then of course, but the information in the Almanack is as useful and interesting as ever. I love the annual astrological review of world events on the first page. It's not always 100% accurate in its predictions, but it usually comes pretty close and for 2013 the focus (unsurprisingly) is on the economic "crisis". I feel the author's comment that "We are all to blame for creating our huge mountain of debt" hits the nail right on the head. Far too many people (and the Media) are constantly blaming someone else, be it the bankers, governments, etc., anything but take some personal responsibility for our "buy now - pay later" attitudes.

The World Review also predicts an increase in the number of religious sects and fanatics of all kinds in 2013. Given the fun we have had with Abu Hamza in the UK this year, it seems self-evident that these trends will only get worse. On the other hand, if the nutters who are obsessed with the 2012 phenomenon are right there may not be a 2013 at all! Each to their own, but I confidently expect to be reading the Almanack for a good few years yet!

My husband is a keen gardener and swears by the "Best Sowing and Planting Times" in the back of the Almanack. I can't say how accurate this stuff is, but our garden always looks lovely, so maybe it works! The astrological profiles of celebs are always interesting, even when the people profiled are not!! Pippa Middleton is featured in this edition, and unsurprisingly she's a Leo with Venus rising!

This little book/almanack is packed with predictions in the subjects of sport, weather, global affairs, and many more. It contains horoscopes. There is information on fishing and gardening throughout the year, and even which lottery numbers you should consider. Adverts can help you get in contact with psychic mediums and tarot readers. An interestin book looking into the future.

I buy the almanac every so often for the planting recommendations. I've no interest in the celebrity birthdays and think the pages could be better used for many things. The upcoming season for sportsman might be more interesting. Nevertheless, it's been going so long it must be doing something right. I hope it continues to thrive far into the future which will be helped if people continue to buy it.
I can think of nothing in any field except religion (even then the Almanac is concerned with beliefs) with equal longevity.

Anyone who likes reading there stars should buy this just for fun to look back on. There were some really good predicitions in the 2012 edition that were spot on, considering this book is prepared for print in september. The weather prediction are really good and out beat some well known long range forecasters hands down. Will be buying this every year.

I bought this almanac for someone else, who could not find it in the high street shops. Before I passed it on, I read some of it myself. It was as expected, more or less as I remember it from the days when it was an essential item in every household. I did however think there were too many pages devoted to so called celebrities.

Always handy to have throughout the year, with its details of full moon, sunset, etc. The predictions are occasionally uncannily correct, but generally I detach the astrology pages for my superstitious wife and keep the useful middle bit for my practical use.
