A rock provides a major clue to the heartbeat of Brad Paisley’s Wheelhouse.

The piece, a silhouette of Paisley’s homestate West Virginia, is embedded in one of two stone walls of the drum room in his converted home studio. The state represents the place where he first acquired the skills that coalesced into one of contemporary country’s most important careers. The ... Read more in Amazon's Brad Paisley Store

4.0 out of 5 stars A return to form! 26 Aug 2014
Format:Audio CD
This is much better than his last album Wheelhouse which apart from a few tracks did not work for me and I thought was a bit of a mess. It would appear others must have thought much the same as it did not sell as well as his other albums. This is a return to form with songs that are humourous, fun, rollicking, moving and powerful The album gets off to a thumping start with 'bro country' Crushin' It". High Life is both infectious and humourous. Plenty of other highlights and nothing that needs skipping over like his last album. This is a more typical Paisley album which still has his sense of adventure without going too far. Not his best album for me but close to it. High quality modern country music well played and well sung with and many of the tracks well suited to the arena. An enjoyable lsiten. Recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Meh.... Still producing 3 star stuff I'm afraid 10 Oct 2014
Format:Audio CD
How this gets 5 stars from people is bit mystifying to me.

Certainly its a partial return to form but its still moribund stuff really. There are good songs here but not enough of them.
Far too much, by the numbers, songwriting and repetitious musicianship. Its formulaic and a bit lazy.
Its like everyone has turned up and produced a 'Brad Paisley Album' by following a script.

There is nothing here to suggest that anyone has sat down and acknowledged that the recent past is littered with
'ok' albums where a few high quality songs are outnumbered by mediocre dross that even elite musicians cannot
disguise or dress up.

Songs are the key. If you cant write enough good songs, swallow your pride, take the royalty hit and go get some
quality songs. They are out there so go look for them.

If no one in the Paisley camp can sit down and say 'Nice song Brad...but not good enough' then we will be looking at album after album of mediocre songs dumbing down the 2 or 3 cracking tracks that are produced.

He's a cracking singer, a great guitarist and can produce great stuff but I'm getting a bit tired of the laziness that seems to say that every song he writes is worth our while buying. At least half of them aren't.

I'm hoping for the next album to have 10 or 12 GREAT songs...dont care who writes them.

I dont want 15 to 17 (bonus tracks....they're hardly ever a bonus are they) songs handed to me just because they have his name on as writer or co writer.

Give me an ALBUM of good songs please.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Quality Country 7 Sep 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This doesn't have as many great tracks as Wheelhouse but it is typically good. There are some real tongue-in-cheek keepers like High Life and River Bank and some anthemic country tracks like Country Nation and Moonshine in the Trunk. As always, the album is musically excellent.

1.0 out of 5 stars THE LAST TIME 27 Oct 2014
Format:Audio CD
Shallow stadium-rock oriented material combined with stomach churning flag-waving twaddle makes for the poorest album I have ever heard from BP.I've fallen into the habit of automatically purchasing Paisley albums but it has been clear that the quality meter has been switched off for some time. This one is just so much a collection of written-by-numbers nothingness that i can't see me playing it again

4.0 out of 5 stars Beethoven only wrote 9 symphonies ! 27 Oct 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I have decided it is unreasonable to expect artists to be continually successful in their work - in this case the previous Wheelhouse album - after all Beethoven only wrote nine symphonies in his lifetime ( well complete ones !) The previous album to this, recorded in Brads new studio was pretty bland overall, with Brad not sure if his material was country, rock or rap. But this Moonshine album has some great tracks, fine playing and lyrical content. I think others have mentioned this before, but the auto-tuned harmony tracks, or pitch-corrected vocaliser harmonies, he uses are clinical and a bit souless - so perhaps it is time for him to try some live, girl backing vocalists !

3.0 out of 5 stars Love Brad, but needs to move on. 27 Aug 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
First of all I'm a big fan of Brad P and my wife and I have seen him 3 times live and met him twice. I just think I've got a bit bored with his music. I gave this 3 stars as I did his last, there seems more production and auto tune on this album then WHEELHOUSE, but I feel it's not much better then the last. Brad Paisley is a great entertainer, great guitar player and a great bloke, but I feel as if I've heard it all before, the same guitar sound, same type of lyrics, and just how many songs do we need to hear WOOH as a backing vocal. I like the fact he has his own sound and style, but he needs to move on. I feel each time I buy his new album I know what's on it before I press play. My fave is HIGH LIFE. My fave song he has recorded over the last few years was his charity song HARD LIFE, better then any song on the last 2 albums. He and his co writers seem to have run out of ideas, I enjoy his fun, I just don't think his songs are as strong as they used to be, there's nothing new here. The sales of Wheelhouse / the lack of big hit singles should be telling him it's time for a change and a change of co writers, there are no class songs like, WHISKEY LULABY [ the song that made me a fan ],WAITIN' ON A WOMAN, WITH YOU, WITHOUT YOU, EVERYBODYS HERE, ONE OF THOSE LIVES, WATER, WORKIN' ON A TAN, THEN, etc, also the album design is bad, not much thought gone into it, I still like to buy cd's as the sound quality is far better, also no lyrics included. I think BP needs to take more time choosing, writing and recording songs for the next album, less can be more, 10 quality songs with different sounds and styles is better then 14 plus 2nd rate of what we have already bought before. Still love Brad, but think I've been spoilt by Justin Currie and his excellent lyrics and fantastic songs.

2.0 out of 5 stars I like Brad P and his first three CDs
I like Brad P and his first three CDs. My guess is that along the way, he will loose the steel guitar and then the fiddle and then I stop buying his albums.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, but he's done better
Have all his other albums, and was slightly disappointed with this one. Hard to put a nail on it, but generally didn't seem to have the spark and bite of all his previous albums. Read more
