Moonrise Kingdom Soundtrack - An mixed bag of tracks that works together surprisingly well

Moonrise Kingdom is a delightful, visually quirky film from Wes Anderson that looks at the lives of dysfunctional people through the eyes of two runaway children. The use of music throughout is key to the feel of the film, and helps to drive the narrative and underscore the emotional impact with a series of well chosen pieces that fit it perfectly. There is quite a mixed bag, with several classical pieces, especially works by Britten which are important to the film's plot, and a few tracks from Hank Williams. The mix of classical and classic country shouldn't work, but it does, and this CD provides a thoroughly enjoyable listening experience. As with all great soundtracks it works well in isolation from the film, and there is plenty of great music to enjoy here, but the most benefit will be for those who have seen the film, where particular tracks will evoke memories of particular scenes and will be almost guaranteed to raise a smile. 5 stars for this eclectic mix.

After watching the movie I realized how much I had enjoyed the soundtrack. This is not a soundtrack for all occasions as it is pretty quirky (what else would you expect from a Wes Anderson film) but it certainly has a place in my life. The Hank Williams tracks bring a smile to my face and I didn't realize how much I loved Brittens' Playful Pizzicato, until I heard it again.
This disc arrived around my 20th wedding anniversary, and we played it in the car during a day out to celebrate, so it will always have a fond linked memory to it

Unfortunately, it was not possible for us to hear it in English, only German. We tried for ages on our television to find
English, but the report came back that this was impossible. Not exactly these words but something like it. My daughter at present is living in German so decided to keep it and send it onto her. I will wait now until it is in the shops in English.

Excellent rendition of the score in the film. Beautiful and playful music. The sound quality is also very decent. If you like the film - and the score is a bit part of it - this is a must buy.

We have just come back from seeing the film at the cinema and I had to order the lovely music, some really beautiful to accompany a film that I am still smiling about. Beautiful photography, great music, offbeat story, rather Hal Hartley in nature. Can't wait for the sound track to arrive now.

Bought this CD after seeing and really enjoying Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom at the cinema. Loved the film, loved the music, love the CD. Great price and speedy delivery from The Music Merchant. Can't recommend too highly.
