This made an impression on me, when i first heard it on the radio, about twelve years ago and i have had this on cassette for much of this time. this and a number of other stories i can think of, Treasure island and Kidnapped are examples, are classified as childrens classics. This can sometimes lessen the appeal of the story to a wider audience. Moonfleet is an example of this. A first rate adventure story, set in an 18th century Dorset fishing village. This full cast BBC radio dramatisation, captures the superb atmosphere of J. Mead Falkners classic story. A story of smuggling, treasure, adventure and true love. This is one of the BBC's finest dramatisations, with a first rate cast. There is never any sense here, of actors reading a script into microphones. The actors evoke a fine sense of character and sensitivity in their respective parts. The sound effects are equally fine-croaking rooks, smugglers vaults, echoing caves, fifty fathom wells, squalid dungeons, storms and shipwrecks, are some of the audio delights on offer. This production also uses musical excerpts from Frank Bridge's orchestral suite, The sea, to great effect. Tthis is on of the very best BBC audio dramatisations, in any category, that i have heard. This is a classic dramatisation of a classic story that has wide appeal for bot adults and children alike.

All three of my children loved the story - but I had to fill in the gaps as the it has been greatly condensed. Good job I had read the book or it would have been really confusing.

Too difficult for young ones - especially because of accents & story itself: requires enough knowledge to be appreciated; wouldn't recommend it for any younger than teens.
