4.0 out of 5 stars A great adventure movie!! 29 Jun 2006
By Mathis
Format:DVD
And I love adventures!

If you're going to buy only one Hong Kong kung-fu adventure movie in your lifetime, I strongly recommend this one. It got it all, even drama and great acting. And God bless the people at Hong Kong Legends for making films like this available in the West, with decent subtitles and all. Two thumbs up!! The only reason it's not worth five stars is because it's not flawless (ex: every time someone rides a horse they speed up the tape, even though it really is not necessary).

5.0 out of 5 stars MOON WARRIORS REVISTED! 6 Oct 2011
Format:DVD
"YES,it came back by popular demand,it had been some years since I had seen the film and so it was a good deal from AMAZON,this is a film with great Chinese acrobatics and stunts and well known actors, virtual non stop intrigue and action, this is one of Sammo Humgs Finest! Andy Lau plays a Fisher Man,and the dethroned Monarch on "the run" with entourage` fight their way through the film and the simplicity and honesty of Andy Lau shines through and his high moralistic attitude which is masked by a simplicity and happiness of his character and his charisma is unique to him, a great actor of The Jade Cinema, all the other characters fit perfectly -including the "bad king and his henchmen" the plot thickens as one of the Kings retinue is in fact the usurpers spy and fails in her mission through her loyalty and weakness for Lau,the battle is joined and under the directorship of Sammo' the films climax is reached when this deadly film peters out into the showdown of good and evil,a must see for all kung fu addicts! The scenery is second to none and the film set is one of perfect light and dimension, the acrobatics of Mr Lau's friendly gentle and almost human Whale packs a tail of vengence against the usurper and is one of the most amazing Fishy Actors that was ever seen on The Jade Cinema,in short watch the great scenery for yourself and the End is serene as the calm of an Ocean, hats off to The actors in this Fantasy epic!

4.0 out of 5 stars Big names, small storyline 25 April 2007
By sam hrt
Format:DVD
When I watched this movie, I expected it to be one of the best that I had ever seen. After all, the liks of Maggie Cheung and Andy Lau would hardly sign upto a movie with a lacking script would they? The answer is sadly, yes. I don't know what made them do it, I can only imagine the pay was good. The truth is, the storyline was stale, with a betrayed King overthrown by his brother (surprise, surprise) & his helped out by his faithful supporters. Of course, evil bro doesn't like the fact that the threat is alive and kicking so he sends assassains.

Fortunatley, this movie still had a pulse thanks to the amazing acting of the martial arts veterans (namedly Cheung and Lau). The qualities they bring their charcters is probably unparalelled, as each actor embodies their characters very well helped by a few twists on the way. Nonetheless, it was a case of trying to do too much at once as love stories started to spout from every sub-plot going. It was a lot I admit to get my head around whilst deciding that they should have just have killed the evil prince off in the first two minutes (he didn't have much to do anyway except play archery with his soldiers heads). At least that way, they would have the greatest love stories captured on screen going.
