Product Description

Moon USA Travel Planner is a sampler of top travel destinations in the U.S. Excerpted from Moon’s Handbooks series, this eBook offers information on vacation spots ranging from Washington’s San Juan Islands to Florida’s Gulf Coast. Rather than providing in-depth coverage on just one location, this is a fun-to-browse guide that offers overviews of fifty-two individual cities, states, regions, and national parks and monuments—along with a trip-planning section, suggested itineraries, maps, and photos for each one. With chapters on Napa and Sonoma, Yellowstone, New Mexico, Michigan, Kentucky, New York, Rhode Island, and more, Moon USA Travel Planner gives travelers the tools they need to create a more personal and memorable experience. This eBook was revised and updated in August 2012.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Very Realistic and Too High Level 16 May 2011
By Michael Gallagher - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The book description appeared promising, but I was a bit disappointed and was glad this was offered for free: most of the content describing various areas are extremely high-level and appear to be in less detail than a Wikipedia summary.

Being from Texas, I decided to first check out the Texas section and the book's associated recommendations of how to spend a week traveling the state. If you follow the book's recommendations, you will spend most of your time driving vs. really being able to see anything. For example, even at a steady 70 mph of driving you will spend at least 4 hours in the car on Day 3, 8 hours on Day 4, 7 hours on Day 8, and 5 hours on Day 9. I don't believe you will be able to see too much on your trip except the bumber of the car or truck in front of you.

I didn't think the recommended "to do" on some of the trips was very realistic. For example, the guide recommends you spend day 9 in Houston at the Space Center; the Space Center is about 4.5 hours from San Antonio (assuming you don't have to stop for a break). The Space Center is a great destination and would take at least a full day to enjoy it all, but the book assumes you can drive from San Antonio to Houston, visit the Space Center, then hop in the car for another hour or so drive to spend the rest of your day checking out the Museum District - you could spend days in the Museum District. Not very realistic.

The book does have a lot of nice pictures, hence the tremendous size of the book in the Kindle format.

While this was free, if you are looking for a realistic guide to plan a vacation I would recommend something else.

3.0 out of 5 stars If you want to spend a lot of time in a car.... 19 May 2011
By S. Abraham - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Most of my visiting the USA has been my family and I sitting in a car for hours on end, stopping occasionally for some incredibly touristy spot, then hitting the road again. I live in PA, and I've seen every state on the east coast if by see you mean saw the highway. Flipping through the pages of the PA section left me with the impression that my parents would love this book. Me - not so much. If you follow this book, beware - you will spending far too much time driving from place to place.I imagine this would be a useful tool to see where the good tourist sites are, but use Google maps or a GPS navigation system to get a far more accurate estimation on how long all the traveling will take.

4.0 out of 5 stars informative and helpful 4 Jun 2011
By Sarah - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
In this travel guide you will find a wide assortment of states, regions, and national parks. Within each section there are detailed intenaries, and much information given on local attractions and many sights off the beaten path. If you plan on extensively visiting a particular area of the USA or taking a cross country or multi state road trip with lots of time then this guide will be immensely helpful. However, there are a few short trip intineraries included, they were not really worthwhile.

1.0 out of 5 stars USA? Missing a few states 20 May 2011
By Molly - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm glad it was free - as I would have been greatly disappointed upon opening it. Apparently Maryland on deserves only one mention (that was to drive through it to DC). Also missing in action is Delaware. Didn't bother checking on other states (Yes, boy we know California is covered!). Should be called USA kinda sorta.
2.0 out of 5 stars not very helpful 28 Mar 2013

this is too general to be helpful, and the maps are useless on my Kindle. I do like the Moon guides usually.
