5.0 out of 5 stars Camel's finest hour?, 5 Mar 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Moon Madness (Audio CD)
Arguably Camel's finest album of the 70s, 'Moonmadness' is a stunning combination of compositional skill and awesome instrumental virtuosity. The throbbing opening track 'Aristillus' introduces the 'spacey' feel which dominates the album, and then we are into 'Song Within a Song' (marred in my opinion by a lacklustre vocal from bassist Doug Ferguson, and much better sung by Richard Sinclair on the band's later 'A Live Record')and the excellent 'Chord Change' showcasing Andy Latimer's flowing guitar style. In the old vinyl days 'Spirit of the Water' ended side 1 on a note of wistful lyricism. The final three tracks, which made up the vinyl side 2, are monumental. Peter Bardens puts in some magnificent Hammond organ work on 'Another Night', 'Air Born' is quite simply beautiful, and the closing track 'Lunar Sea' is a tour-de-force of jazz-fusion, with scintillating guitar work, out-of-this-world synthesizer and pulsating rhythms, drummer Any Ward thrashing his drums like a man inspired. Absolutely brilliant and worth five stars from anyone who isn't tone-deaf.

This review is from: Moonmadness (Audio CD)
This album is the greatest prog album i have heard, it is perfect in every way, all the melodies are beautiful and every song is complex. Latimer is one of my fave guitarists ever, and airborn ( one of the best tracks ever recorded!) contains the most beutiful guitar and flute melody ever! BUY IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless -Ahead of its time -Futuristic sythe-rock., 23 July 2000
This review is from: Moon Madness (Audio CD)
I first heard this ,by chance in 1976. Recently ,via amazon, i made an long awaited reunion and was once again startled with the perfection of the compositions and their production. Great music to dream to and imagine. Another world, another time, spaceage landscapes. Outa-this-world. Forget Snow goose-Buy this.
