5.0 out of 5 stars Complete! 13 Aug 2012

This book on Chile is an extremely complete representation and guide to the history, peoples, land, places, government, as well as the current conditions of the country and its people. The volume also contains very detailed descriptions of sights to visit that are not directly in the cities or countryside and may take additional flights, days, and expenses to see. The manner in which the book is written and presented allows the reader to develop a complete trip agenda, including transportation and hotels, using the information in this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a complete guide to Chile and surrounding areas. It is great!
3.0 out of 5 stars Leaves out important info 9 Jan 2012
By LizC - Published on Amazon.com
While I liked all of the recommended restaurant and most of the accommodations I tried, this book fails to include what I consider an important piece of information - that Chile closes down on Sundays to a greater extent than some of its neighbors. There was only one restaurant open near the place I stayed in Santiago, and the city of Arica almost completely shuts down - even the tour companies and surf shops. So, if you arrive on Saturday night and expect to be able to book a tour to Lauca National Park for Monday, you are out of luck. I ended up sitting around in Arica for the better part of two days. I'f I'd known this, I could have planned to arrive on a different day. It mentions the surfing in Arica, but provides no practical info on how to rent a board. The information on the attractions in Santiago was a bit sparse. It leaves out a lot of interesting places. Also, the maps may not have been updated from previous versions. There are places listed that are not shown on the maps, and vice versa. I've noticed this in other Moon handbooks as well.

3.0 out of 5 stars not great 29 Dec 2009

This guide is not great. It lacks descriptions and explanations of what to see in most places. In addition, its recommendations of accommodations and restaurants are generic at best.
