About the Author
Tove Jansson was born in Helsingfors, Finland, in 1914. Her mother was a caricaturist who designed 165 of Finland's stamps and her father was a sculptor. She studied painting in Finland, Sweden and France, and subsequently became a book illustrator. Her extraordinary illustrative style is seen as a design classic the world over. Originally written in Swedish, the Moomintroll books have been translated into 34 languages and adapted for television, film, radio and opera. Tove Jansson lived alone on a small island in the gulf of Finland, where most of her books were written. She died in 2001.

Both my husband and I are ardent fans of Tove Jansson and the Moomins, so we were delighted to find this little box set when our daughter was fifteen months old, to introduce her to some of the Moomin family.
The set contains four titles - 'Meet Moominpappa', 'Meet Moominmamma', 'Meet Moomintroll' and 'Meet Snorkmaiden'. Each book contains five simple statements, accompanied by illustrations, which show the reader who the characters are, what they look like and what they like to do.
The books are well constructed - the board pages are robust and will wipe clean. My daughter has loved being able to handle them and turn the pages and now, at eighteen months, she has memorised them all and loves to join in when we read them to her.
Even if you've never heard of the Moomins, this is a lovely set of books with engaging fictional characters for a young child to enjoy. If you are a fan of the Moomins, then this set is surely a must to introduce your pre-schooler to a life-long love of Finn Family Moomintroll!

This is a perfect introduction to the delightful Moomin books. Sturdy and small for little fingers with bright colours and big lettering.

I bought these for my daughter (20 months) and we both love the pictures and the narrative. As per the product description the size of the books is just right for her little hands. My daughter is quite careful with books compared to other toddlers I know of the same age. Bearing in mind the product description says the books are "durable enough to withstand the rough and tumble of toddlers", I thought these would be perfect for her. However, after less than a month the covers of 3/4 of the books have split away from the spine.
Overall, they are lovely books but not very sturdy.
