5.0 out of 5 stars What a great album of classic music & songs, 29 May 2010
By
Ron Hills (Havant, England) - See all my reviews
I received my copy today and what great version of Glen's music this is. Imelda May is just wonderful on Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and if that is the Andrews Sisters they have mixed Don't Sit Under The Apple Tree in with care. Stacey Solomon was a great choice for At Last, I do not know Jason Isaacs but he is a good on Chattanooga Choo Choo.

All in all a stupendous album of some of the greatest music around, I am just a little too young to know the music first hand but having grown up around it I love it and this album is worth £10 of anybody's money. I will recomend this album to anybody who likes good music. The Squadronaires are note perfect, well done the RAF. In The Mood: The Glenn Miller Songbook

4.0 out of 5 stars AN AFFECTIONATE TRIBUTE IN EXEMPLARY SOUND, 25 Jun 2010

(TOP 50 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This CD features the new Royal Air Force Squadronaires playing fourteen of the numbers closely associated with Miller's repertoire (noting that four were recorded contemporaneously by the original RAF Dance Orchestra). This is an 18-piece band, with an impressive rhythm section, disciplined section playing, and accomplished soloists and vocalists. This is an affectionate tribute to one of the best-remembered bands of the war years, and the quality of the recording is exemplary. My one criticism, and the reason for revising my earlier review by docking one star, is that around 45 minutes is short measure for today's CD. I'd like to hear the Squads casting their net wider, and playing at greater length, and hope we can look forward to a further CD which does just that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgia, 30 May 2010
I have always loved the music of Glenn Miller; there are so many trombone players in my family history including a late uncle who had a dance band with the same signature tune. It's great that the Squadronaires have revived all the old favourites.
