Book Description

17 May 2012

Colin Montgomerie is a golfing legend. Ranked Europe's number one golfer for an unparalleled seven years in a row, he is equally renowned as a player of great passion. The son of a keen Scottish golfing family, Colin was already showing his prodigious talent as a small boy. After completing his education in America where he benefited from a golf scholarship, Colin turned professional in 1987, beginning a truly remarkable career. Even with over forty international tournament victories and eight European Order of Merit titles, Monty is best known for his amazing contributions to the European Ryder Cup team; eight times as a player and undefeated in singles, and most recently, as the victorious 2010 European Ryder Cup Captain.

Montgomerie's autobiography is the story of both a prodigious talent and complex personality who at forty-seven remains determined to add to his already impressive achievements. It is a book about one of the greatest golfing characters in the world trying to achieve the necessary personal and professional balance. And it is about the hero of the Ryder Cup - five times a winner, culminating in victory as team captain and the unforgettable scenes at Celtic Manor in October 2010.

Review

The story of both a prodigious talent and a complex personality. It is a book about one of the greatest golfing characters in the world trying to achieve the necessary personal and professional balance. (WOMEN & GOLF 20120701)

I enjoyed the read immensely, especially as the book includes an intriguing question and answer chapter. This is a welcome addition as Monty gives us his views on subjects as diverse as the belly putter, golf in the 2016 Olympics and tips for winter golfers. (GOLF MAGIC.COM 20120619)

Golfing legend Colin Montgomerie was Europe's top golfer for seven years in a row and his newly published autobiography, Monty, reveals what continues to drive Monty and the part his golfing family played in his successful career. (CHOICE 20120701)

He offers some interesting thoughts about what the future might hold for him, admitting he's now targeting a 'Senior Grand Slam' after hinting not long ago that he might play very little over-50s golf when he becomes eligible in a year's time. (THE SCOTSMAN 20120630)

Monty certainly has a lot to say, and this makes enjoyable reading (GOOD BOOK GUIDE 20120901)

2.0 out of 5 stars So many errors 15 Jun 2012
Format:Hardcover
For a man that was such a perfectionist on the golf course this book is riddled with errors.

Peter Lawrie must be delighted to have won the 1999 Open, although I suspect Paul Lawrie must be a bit bummed that he had to play the shots on Peter's behalf....!!!

If you've read his previous autobiography there's really no need to get this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome...just awesome (smiley face) 2 Jun 2012
Format:Hardcover
I have admired "Monty" from afar for many years and this book confirms my admiration was well-placed and well-deserved. A fascinating, rip-snorting, roller-coaster of a read - even better than this last autobiography. which was awesome. just awesome. The bit where he wins the Ryder Cup on his own with Peter Lawrie fetching water for him on the tees? Awesome. Just awesome. I can't wait for the next autobiography

Jim Bob. An unashamed Monty fan.

I have been a big fan of Colin throughout his career and it was wonderful to read more about the great man in this autobiography. A great buy and a book I just couldn't put down! I love him and I love this book.
