This CD is a re-release of a 1970 album which collected nineteen of Python's best TV sketches.
The TV series was a bit hit and miss, with real comedy gems interspersed between stretches of dullness. Watching the episodes can be a bit of a trial while waiting for the good bits, so this collection is a welcome addition to my collection that allows me to quickly get at the best stuff.
There is lots to choose from, but the team behind this have made a good series of selections of material that works well in audio only. The sound is really good, much better than I was expecting after hearing other releases in this range. The remastering team have done a great job. The CD is black and looks like an old vinyl record (which may not play in some CD players) and the original liner notes have been reproduced. This is a quality set, and an essential purchase for all Pythonists, and a great way for the casual fan to get the best sketches.

Another black vinyl-look CD! Aaarrgghh! I had to rip it on the computer to my MP3 player in order to be able to listen to it at leisure. My usual hi-fi CD and DVD players cannot see the black discs!
So I've been sitting on the bus and tube chuckling to myself with eyes shut, reliving the TV pictures in my mind prompted by the words in my ears, while guaranteeing a clear space around me as nervous people move away to a safer distance.
Most of the favourite sketches are here, but I feel a dreadful temptation to go and buy the DVDs instead, to get the full picture and fill in the gaps. I remember that the TV programs as a whole had many duff bits in them, but I feel quite a few of the good bits are missing as well; alas, my memory is not good enough to say which they were. Was it really almost four decades ago?
Yes, this re-mastered CD has excellent audio quality, probably better than the original TV sound! But I feel I must deduct a star for the stupid black vinyl-look CDs.

Years before comedy acts like not the nine o'clock news were a wacky and original comedy team that became globally famous. This is a must for any Monty Python fan thinking to update their collection from vinyl to CD. The sleeve art work is the same as the original vinyl sleeve. If you don't laugh out loud at many of the strange and often puzzling sketches then check you have a pulse lol. Crunchy frog confectionery to sheep in trees...to the dead parrot sketch, at the price the product is offered it is a steal. There has never been another comedy team like Monty Python and I think there never will be again.
