This CD is a re-release of a 1970 album which collected nineteen of Python's best TV sketches.

The TV series was a bit hit and miss, with real comedy gems interspersed between stretches of dullness. Watching the episodes can be a bit of a trial while waiting for the good bits, so this collection is a welcome addition to my collection that allows me to quickly get at the best stuff.

There is lots to choose from, but the team behind this have made a good series of selections of material that works well in audio only. The sound is really good, much better than I was expecting after hearing other releases in this range. The remastering team have done a great job. The CD is black and looks like an old vinyl record (which may not play in some CD players) and the original liner notes have been reproduced. This is a quality set, and an essential purchase for all Pythonists, and a great way for the casual fan to get the best sketches.

At Present Amazon has no track list, so here it is -

01 The Flying Sheep
02 Man With Three Buttocks
03 Whizzo Chocolates
04 Nudge Nudge Wink Wink
05 The Mouse Problem
06 Buying A Bed
07 Interesting People
08 Barber Shop
09 The Lumberjack Song
10 Interview
11 Arthur Two Sheds
12 Children's Stories
13 Visitors
14 Get Your Albatross
15 Mr Hitler
16 The North Minehead Bye-Election
17 Me, Doctor
18 The Parrot Sketch
19 Self Defence

Monty Python CDs aren't that difficult to find, there are many out there and most of them are very good. This particular CD stands out however...

...The CD has been packaged to look like the original release of this on LP over forty years ago, the CD itself is printed so that it look vinyl and the original press clippings are on the sleeve. It's a miniaturised and faithful reprodiution of the original with cleaned audio which makes it sound like a studio recording done only yesterday.

At just under an hour in duration this obviously isn't a definitive collection but it does contain the more iconic sketches (Dead Parrot, The Lumberjack Song, etc). What sets this apart from other CDs available is the clarity of the audio, Monty Python has never sounded so great. I would have given this 4 stars as it seemed to offer nothing new, but for someone who has no Monty Python CDs, or for a newbie wanting an introduction to the great and ground-breaking comedy troupe then this is the perfect place to start.

In a nutshell: If you already have Monty Python sketches on CD then you may want to give this a miss, if not though this represents a great value for money purchase - currently less than a fiver here on Amazon means I feel guilty giving it anything less than 5 stars.

All these new comedy series come and go yet the classics always stay forever and this is one of them comedy golden moments. I have always and still love Monty python's memorable gaffs and gags; each one a classic (from the series not so much the movies) and each make you laugh until you end up getting hurt. Well if in the 1970's you had the original vinyl masterpiece that was released with most of their best memorable and hilarious sketches and you have played it so much that you have ruined it, then you will be happy to know they have re-released it for the new generation. Was it worth the wait? Of course, it was. Although the CD does have the audio output that the original vinyl had, the crisp clean up for the original vinyl is heard here. The speeches and jokes are told with gusto and each lines can be heard perfectly. WARNING! Do not listen to in the car as laughing will cause you to lose concentration on the road. Especially on the motorway. Laugh all over again to the classic parrot sketch and the rather bizarre Nudge, Nudge, Wink, Wink sketch and don't forget the infectious Lumberjack song. They are all here and I'd say if you have turned your back on Vinyl but remember those memories when you first heard this, then I'd suggest you get this CD and relive your fave Monty Python moments again. It's a hour worth of nostalgia, It'll brighten up any day.

This is a great collection of the very best of Monty Python comedy humour.

The production is clear and each sketch or song seemlessly linked to one and other, while I know there are some who would suggest that much of the Python's humour was simultaneously very visual aswell as cerebral and more suited to TV broadcasting than audio or radio I would suggest they keep an open mind and try this.

Anyone who is a fan will be able to have a nostalgia trip listening to old favourites and recalling the scenes but its possible to enjoy the production without any prior knowledge or experience of the sketches and songs besides what is presented here. While I knew and enjoyed recalling some of the scenes and sketches presented here, there were others which I did not know from watching the series or films but which I found really entertaining and amusing. There is enough in the way of explanatory script were necessary for each sketch to be clear to the listener.

I thought for a bit about including some comment on the Python's humour in this review of the BBC vintage production but realised just how difficult it could be to sum up the surreal humour, I find that it is really funny, peerless and without comparison.
