WE'VE HAD THIS BENCH NOW FOR ABOUT FIVE WEEKS, LESS THAN A WEEK AFTER ORDERING. I MEANT TO OIL IT, BUT HAVEN'T GOT ROUND TO IT, SO IT HAS BEEN OUT IN THE RELENTLESS RAINS OF THE PAST FORTNIGHT. IT HAS NOT SHOWN ANY SIGN OF WARPING OR SPLITTING,BUT HAS DEVELOPED THE CUSTOMARY SILVERED APPEARANCE, WHICH IS REALLY ATTRACTIVE. I AM NOW CONSIDERING THAT I MIGHT NOW BOTHER WITH THE OIL, AS THE QUALITY IS SUCH THAT IT CAN BE LEFT NATURAL.

THERE ARE ONLY TWO BRASS SCREWS, SO THERE IS NOTHING TO RUST. THE LIMITED AMOUNT OF ASSEMBLY (BACK & SEAT TO SIDES & CROSS-MEMBER BETWEEN)IS BY THE USE OF DOWELLS. MY HUSBAND ADDED A SPOT OF WOOD GLUE FOR EXTRA STRENGTH, ALTHOUGH NOT STRICTLY NECESSARY.

SO WE HAVE A STURDY, BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF QUALITY FURNITURE THAT I AM CONFIDENT WILL LAST US FOR MANY YEARS.

We ordered this bench Saturday lunchtime and it was delivered Tuesday morning. My husband put it together in a very short time and was full of praise for the quality of the workmanship. He said it was really easy to fit together, that the standard of fixings was excellent and the wood itself is of a high quality. Praise indeed!! We would recommend it without hesitation.

I HAVE UPLOADED 10 PHOTOS TO ACCOMPANY THIS REVIEW.

I felt sorry for the delivery man as he staggered up the drive with this dead weight on his shoulder, but the weight alone is a good clue to the sheer quality of the wood inside. It came in a huge cardboard box which had survived the journey from Indonesia with hardly a mark on it. Inside, the component parts (two sides, one back, one seat panel, and one front spar) were carefully tied together to avoid damage in transit, and the 4 screws and 12 wooden dowels were in a small plastic bag.

I decided on the advice of a neighbour to apply a coat of Ronseal Teak Oil Ronseal TO1L 1L Teak Oil to the components before assembly since this made it easier to get to all the little nooks and crannies ensuring the oil cover was 100%. Before embarking on this however, I carried out a trial fit of the components and it's as well I did.

Whilst the mortise and tenon joints are accurately positioned, presumably having been machine cut in a jig, the four mortise holes (2 in the back panel, 2 in the front spar) had not been reamed out cleanly and they were full of wood shavings that were still attached. I had to spend some time with a small chisel cleaning these out so that the mortises were deep enough to accept the tenons. That done and the first coat of oil was applied (see first photograph) with a square of cotton material cut from an old tee shirt. I left it to dry overnight.

The next morning a neighbour helped me assemble it ... it can be done by one person but an extra pair of hands proved useful at times. I was tempted to use some wood glue to add strength to the joints but decided in the end not to bother.

I am very pleased with my teak bench. It looks very sturdy and is of a good quality. I have given it two coats of teak oil to make sure it is well looked after from the start to stop it discolouring and it looks brilliant. Would definitely recommend. In fact a friend has ordered the smaller one and is very pleased with his too!

I had been looking at prices of teak garden benches and, as usual, I came back to my favourite store (Amazon) and was not disappointed. I must say that my wife was cautious over ordering this bench as most others were ranged about twice the price, and I we are both quite fussy. I duly placed the order, and as suggested by Amazon, added a tin of teak oil plus a winter cover for the bench. It arrived three days later, and comes in five parts, all were well packed. I decided to treat the woodwork over two days with four coats of teak oil, which proved a good decision as it darkened the wood and brought out the grain. Do this before assembly and you will be glad you did. The quality of the wood is suberb, and the bench is heavy and extrememly well made. What was amazing was only four screws were used in assembly, the rest was held by dowels which were a perfect fit. Assembly was easy, taking about half an hour. If you are in any doubt about buying this produce let me say you won't be disappointed. It is well made, heavy and will last decades. Buy the teak oil though. It is made in Indonesia and comes with a certificate stating the forests are managed and replacement trees are constantly being replanted. A truly excellent product.

To say I am fussy is an understatement. Viewed lots of other benches and my ultimate choice was a 1.8m oak bench. However the cost of £400 was out of my budget. At a cost of £150, you are getting value for money and more; I would thoroughly recommend. Assembly is straight forward and vanish if you wish. Ideal low cost quality product.

The bench comes in flat pack in about 5 sections, it goes together easily and looks great. There is also a pack of screws and wood dowels to tap in to the cut joints. My packing case had some damage and had a small hole in it, the pack of screws and dowels had split open and all the dowels were loose in the main box and some had fallen out of the main box and were lost. I e-mailed the supplier and 2 days later a pack of replacement dowels arrives, so great customer service. The bench is manufactured in somewhere like Indonesia and has an excellent finish. It does need a coat of teak oil to finish it off nicely and to protect it from the weather, followed by annual teak oil treatment. Mine is in a church yard with my wife's name plate attached and looks great and gives many a visitor to the church yard a welcome place to rest and reflect on their loved one. Highly recommended and good value.
