Product Description

This is a striking Union Jack themed box. The contents includes some beautifully made truffles, continuing along the theme of celebrating everything British and fabulous! Each of these wonderful truffles are hand finished and made with fresh cream centres. Based on Great British Pudding's the selection of flavours include Black Forest, Lemon Meringue, Eton Mess and Apple Crumble. Montezuma's was founded in 2000 by ex- lawyers Simon and Helen Pattinson, making chocolate with one little machine in Brighton. They believe that making great British chocolate means using great passion, skill and flair; with just a little smile and a lot of love! Since then Montezuma's has grown into one of Britains most innovative chocolate makers... and it certainly does remain a family love afair with chocolate!

My wife bought me this selection box for my birthday, having never tried Montezuma chocolates before I am now a complete convert, these truffles are seriously good quality despite their flavours being perhaps a little on the subtle side.

First impressions raised expectations, just opening the box to find truffles neatly wrapped in tissue paper oozed quality, then the truffles themselves just looked like they were going to taste great.

In the box you get 16 truffles, each measuring roughly just under 3cm diameter each, with 4 of each of the following flavours:

Apple Crumble – Milk chocolate with apple and caramelised hazelnuts
Eton Mess – Dark chocolate with strawberry and meringue
Black Forest- Dark and white chocolate with Kirsch cherries
Lemon Meringue – Dark and white chocolate with lemon and meringue

The flavours are nice but really are subtle and I feel somewhat lost and fighting with the strong chocolate taste of the truffles, with the kirsch in the black forest being by far the strongest flavour of them all.

Whilst I still firmly stand by the fact that these are some of the nicest truffles I’ve had in months, their flavour does fall short a little of their promise of ‘British puddings collection’. If Montezuma’s had titled this box, “really tasty truffles in a thick lovely chocolate shell with subtle hints of pudding flavours” then, yes the name isn’t as catchy, but it would’ve been top marks from me as they are high quality and delicious truffles whilst having only subtle flavours, therefore still very highly recommended.

Something a bit different for a Christmas present for a friend who is an American. Nice box but a little expensive for what is essentially a box of truffles.

I was given a box of these for Christmas and I'm struggling to tell what pudding each truffle is supposed to be. There is not a particularly strong taste for any of them.

I'd head elsewhere for chocolates pretending to be puddings.

I got these chocolates for Christmas and have to say they were inedible. Maybe I got a duff box but if these are supposed to be like this, then they certainley are not truffles. They were so hard I nearly cracked tooth. I tried to chip of a bit of a few of them but they appeared to be all the same. They were in date so it wasn`t that. Not cheap so I`m very dissapointed by this purchase.

The chocolates were eaten very soon after they arrived but were all very grey and old looking, to the point that they were appeared the same and even with the 'menu' couldn't tell them apart. Hard to know if this down to poor storage somewhere along the line, but it seems hard to believe that this was how they were meant to be. They were in date.

Taste wise they weren't as bad as they appeared, but they were far from delicious. Just about nice enough to eat them all - probably comparable to finding a box of stale chocolates in the back of cupboard a year or two out of date.

But perhaps I just got unlucky and didn't sample them as intended.

Disappointed, especially for the price. Nice enough chocolate but even with the menu I'm struggling to tell which is which, they all taste the same other than the dark chocolate around the outside. Ordered as a night in treat and pretty gutted.

Wasn't Overly Impressed by these. The Shells/outer coating were quite hard and the 'Great British Pudding' flavours were much too subtle, very overpowered by the chocolate flavour. It was hard to differentiate one flavour from another.

The packaging was attractive and very solid (in a nice way)

But I can't say I'd buy again or would recommend them.

I sent these to a friend and she was very complimentary, the presentation was admired and the flavours very exciting. The chocolate were very tasty and not sickly. So if you want to send a gift to someone this box of chocolates would go down extremely well.
