I already had the Andrew Parrott version which I like for its authenticity (others may argue, but I like it). This is very different. I discovered L'Arpeggiata through Teatro d'Amore which jazzes up Monteverdi in a way that just works. Christine Pluhar takes similar liberties here. It's fun, puts a smile on your face and makes you dance. Not like Vespers really at all, but think of it more as a re-mix with traditional instruments. A good number two version which by taking a different route reveals new life in an old dog.

Look out for other L'Arpeggiata albums as well!
