My new favorite opera 23 Jun. 2015
By Charles Marlow - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
A beautiful performance and recording of a timeless work. Since purchasing this album, it has become my favorite opera.
L'Orfeo is one of those Baroque pieces that sounds quite nearly modern in places, and Rene Jacobs leads the performance with intelligence and sensitivity to the beautiful nuances of Monteverdi's art.
As always, Harmonia Mundi provides a handsome package of insightful notes and art.

The first true opera! 20 Jan. 2013
By christianw7 - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I own an earlier issue of this, in my opinion, the best recording of the first true opera. Includes excellent ensemble realization of the basso-continuo textures (melodic voices over written bass line and a semi-improvised accompaniment).

Amazing music and performance 15 May 2012

I enyojed very much the performance, and was amazed that this beautiful and varied music was written four centuries ago.
