Book Description

1 Aug 2012
This board book, along with its companion, Number Work, brings popular Montessori pedagogy into book format for the first time. Montessori students learn to write before they learn to read, so the process is driven by their own words and thoughts before those of others. Letters are taught first as sounds (instead of names) and alphabet tiles encourage children to trace each letter with their finger. This book honours that tradition by emulating the standard classroom material with touchable, traceable letters and providing parents or caregivers the Montessori directed language to encourage understanding. The alphabet is introduced by shape (rather than in standard alphabetical order) and by sound (rather than name), providing young children with an alternative way, a Montessori way , to learn their letters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for learning letters 1 Feb 2013
By N Nairn
Format:Board book
I love this book for teaching letters. My 2.5 year old will often pick it off the bookshelf. The board book makes it very durable and it is bright colourful and engaging.

The letters are organised by shape rather than the traditional abc order. Each letter contains a touchy feely letter for the child to trace which help them learn the shape of each letter ready for writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book 2 Jun 2014

This book is really great. My 3yr old loves it! The fact that he can trace the letters with his finger, makes it more fun. Through this book children learn the shape and phonetic first. The letters are not in alphabetical order but in motion order.

I would definately recommend this book for early learning.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not all reviews are right. 15 Mar 2013

I was very skeptical getting the letter work book because of some of the negative reviews, but I am so glad I got it anyway. I think some of the reviews are referring to a different book, bcz all the letters are with the picture. My daughter loved this book and wanted to go through it over and over. I love it's layout, opposed to others, and the pictures are really cute.
I do wish the letters had more texture though. I am considering getting glue and adding glitter on them or something to make it more attractive for my daughter to feel.
Overall, I love this book, and I can't wait to get the number book when we get our alphabet down. :)
Have a great day!

These are high quality books to introduce the alphabet Montessori style... the letters have a sandpaper texture without the sand falling off, so it's wonderful!

Wonderful for my 2 year old!

I was a Montessori kid. I attended from Pre-K thru 6th grade. I cherish every moment of my Montessori experience as well as the incomparable education I received. The style of learning is spectacular, and these books meet the standard.
