I bought this book way after the release of the 3.5 edition had come out. This book still holds up. It is, in my opinion, the best version of Dungeons and Dragons. The "Monstrous Manual" is also the most complete monster companion ever released for any version of Dungeons and Dragons, containing many monsters collected from different smaller, more obscure releases. It is a must have for any Dungeon Master.

This book is NEEDED in order to play 2nd edition AD & D. You cannot do without it. You need this book, the players handbook and the Dungeon Masters Guide. It has a huge amount of creatures with detailed explanations of combat (sometimes a little over detailed and using rules that would make gameplay quite boring and slow). It is also lovely to see the second edition stats and creatures. Good buy.

Being a new DM, I wanted to bring as much variety into my adventures as possible. Although it was a bit difficult to understand at first, being a new DM, this book makes a great supplement to the DM's guide and the PHB. Well done TSR.
